Everything you are asking and all replies are in the troubleshooting guide referenced earlier in this thread. Suggest you go through step by step the guide. All your questions will be answered that way If, by chance there is a step/information in the guide you don't understand, ask a question...

Mercruiser 3.0 TKI engine crank half time - never starts

Lock washer is superfluous at this point, there is a limit to the number of leads/fasteners for battery connections. Five leads/washer combo max with one fastener. Otherwise you're prone to excess corrosion/failure

2002 Mercruiser 5 liter MPI Distributor Timing

Yes, mpi is 18 lb/ft in increments and specific sequence

2002 Mercruiser 5 liter MPI Distributor Timing

There is a procedure for installing and clocking the distributor in the oem manual. If you haven't removed/disturbed the distributor it's most likely fine. When was the last full tune up: plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filters?

Mercruiser 3.0 TKI engine crank half time - never starts

Do not use lock washers or lock nuts on battery connections. Lock washers can damage cable ends and cause premature failure and lock nuts are an nmma no no. Use a flat stainless washer or no washer and stainless nuts to secure battery connections. And of course, clean and tighten regularly

    Is this greasable?

Not much is greasable/serviceable for Volvo gimbal steering assys, they are pretty stout and I have not had to deal with too many over the years. Ime stiff steering is the result of a faulty steering cable in most cases

    Name That Noise

Can't hear much but a guess, as stated, would be gimbal bearing/u joints worn, damaged, loose, etc... Time to pull the drive and inspect

2005 Mercruiser 5.0 thunderbolt V ignition has no sparks

Only the oem 3 wire sensors are reliable. Aftermarket = no good My WAG, as usual with a t bolt no spark, is the ignition sensor. Have replaced more of that component than coils and modules combined by far OP, you must follow the troubleshooting guide mentioned in this thread. Find it in the...

'87 MerCruiser 3.0 stalls when backing off throttle

You need to get rid of the primer bulb. That is merely a restriction in the fuel supply and helps nothing in your situation. Go back to the mechanical fuel pump, 3.0 carb motors never had electric fuel pumps oem. Inspect the entire fuel system from tank/pickup to carb. Check fuel pressure and...

Bring broken belt to auto parts store. Buy a couple/few varying lengths based on broken belt. Return ones that don't fit

    Volvo 5.0GXI Overheat/New thermostat

This is good advice and good information, it suggests one of two things. Either the hoses are installed incorrectly on the pump, i.e. intake/output swapped. Or there is a restriction before the pump. Best to backflush from the pump out the drive and inspect for blockages One other scenario is...

    7.4L Overheating

This is standard for all mcm (sterndrive) engines regardless of external components as they are all standard (left hand) rotation engines from the factory. Plastic housing has the input/output cast into it for reference. Your engine and orientation of hoses is normal/standard. Cool fuel does...

    Serpentine belt pulleys

Not uncommon for the tensioner assy on a Volvo to fail. Definitely recommend replace it first before any other pulley

    Volvo 5.0GXI Overheat/New thermostat

This is the cause of 99% + overheat/cooling issues on a marine engine Ratio of sea water impellers replaced vs thermostats for overheat is greater than 100:1

    Still no power

There is no spec for riser temp. Generally speaking one ought to be able to rest a hand on either at most rpm. After a hard run it may be they are too hot to touch but after idling for a minute or so they should cool off enough to touch, even be cool to the touch. Before you get ahead of...

    5.0 Mercruiser Problems

Yes, maybe a little esoteric for the diy'er.. More commonly the four "strokes" are called intake, compression, power and exhaust. Piston will be TDC at the end of compression (when you want the plug to fire) and exhaust (no fire). Sometimes when a distributor is reinstalled the operator...

Is it the engine coupler that has gone bad?

It's possible the hub in the coupler came loose from the rubber bushing. Rare, but does happen. If you can mark the coupler hub, rubber and the metal housing the rubber bushing is pressed into and test/spin the prop like you did before you can see if the lines no longer match up. Would indicate...

    5.0 Mercruiser Problems

Could be a fuel supply issue, pump/carb or other component. Is the firing order correct?

Is it the engine coupler that has gone bad?

Is there good clean full amount of lube in the drive?

    Is this a concern?

Maxum is Bayliners "nicer" brand. I suppose for 10k with the trailer that's a fair price. As long as everything works and is in good shape, routine maintenance, etc... That minor pitting would not concern me at all, just keep up with anode replacement and it'll be fine
