    Cooling issue... '89 VP AQ271C

It's quite possible. Volvo used/uses many different styles of sea water pumps/impellers. Best bet is to go oem (which you have) but verify by eye the style, number of vanes, hub style, length, etc.... Have no idea the exact p/n for your six bolt/screw cover impeller but can say I've replaced...

Mercruiser 5.0 Won’t Reach Operating Temp

FYI that style bravo pump has a plastic housing that should be replaced along with the impeller. Merc sells a kit with impeller, plate, housing, seal and hardware for the job. Only parts needed from the old pump are the lock washers and nuts to mount to the bracket

Need length of VP shift cable

Could be the info you seek is stamped on the portion of the cable between the seal tube end and the drive. May need to remove that portion of the cable to see it. FYI, nobody knows what length cable you need, it's possible you need to remove the cable completely and measure it

    5.0GLPWTR, fuel pump question

Yeah, could be the fuel pump is faulty. Yours certainly wouldn't be the first. True test is a fuel pump pressure test followed by a vacuum test. Both could indicate an issue in the system before the pump. There is more to the fuel supply system than just an anti siphon valve, lines, pump and...

    New lower shift cable

Then something is not correct. You need to assemble everything for the cable before you put the drive on. Then do your fwd adjustment, then check shift and adjust for neu/rev accordingly

    1997 Merc 4.3 V6 LXGen+

Older oem thunderbolt systems used a paste on the coil tower to prevent arching to the primary sides. Is okay to remove or leave in place Newer styles are better sealed boots and don't need the paste

    470 Timing

I think at this point you try a different timing light. Sounds like the one you have is advance, gives rpm reading, etc?

    Cooling issue... '89 VP AQ271C

I took this to be #1 in the original post. OP also says will overheat in the water as well, not just on muffs OP, have you verified temp with an IR temp gun at the sender/various places on the engine?

Cooling engine - direct water hookup

That is the overflow port for a diaphragm rupture. Raw fuel will spill out and fill the bilge, very dangerous There should be a yellow colored transparent hose from that barb to the carburetor. That way any fuel present will enter the carb/engine and not directly into the bilge

    Lower shift cable.....

You may not be able to properly use the boat to see if it's "worth it" to put the money into it, i.e. the aftermarket cable most likely will not work properly. I've never had one work, ever Merc has only made one cable for alpha style drives for over 30 years and old style/nos oem cables have...

What size adapter do i need for newer trim pump?

Yeah, you're talking really old. Haven't seen a pump painted white in a long time. You may be able to get adapters but they need to be flared fittings which are sae threads. Pipe thread fittings will not work

I would back flush from the sea water pump inlet hose through the transom and out the drive. Check for a restricted flow/leaks

    Still no power

Okay, you know base timing is correct. Did the mechanic tell you that the timing is advancing? You have not informed us of that yet... 4psi fuel pressure is fine, with no load. You need to check fuel pressure under load especially at the rpm you're having issues. Also you should check fuel pump...
