    Oil Analysis Poor Sample

Usually there will be other clues as to why your iron content is high. I had this when my head gaskets were starting to leak and salt water was getting into the oil. Since I fixed it back in 2017 the level of iron has gone down, not as far as is optimal but still a lot better than it was. Causes...

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

On second thought I wonder if you might have 2 exhaust valves stuck open on those 2 cyls, maybe from leaky exhaust if you had no overheating. yep i had the overheat in july 2013 didn't get water in cyls till end of aug 2016 however sodium (salt water cooled) showed up in an oil analysis before...

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

That looks like severe overheat or lean fuel Mix/over propped Make sure to find & correct the cause. Top end overhaul on the SBC is a pretty easy job. Make sure to clean the cyl head bolt holes in the block with a thread chaser. I used Fel Pro marine head & intake gaskets when I did my V6 a few...

If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

So I was replacing the aluminum roller bar mounts on my old Load Rite with lower ones to get the boat a bit lower on the trailer. I found that the 1/2" diameter bolts were getting pretty rusted and deteriorated so I replaced all 4 of them (easy to get parts right from LR, order on their website...

    Second mortgage for a carb?

Exactly See what happens when you’re too young to have grown up with carbs? I had to rebuild: Solex 1bb (65 VW 1200 cc) Autolite 2100 (70 Ford 302) Keihin 3 bbl (1980 Honda 1335 cc) Never had to take apart the Rochester 2bbl on our 72 Chevy 350 or the QJet on our 75 Olds 350.

    Second mortgage for a carb?

Marine carbs use a J Tube for the bowl vent vs a straight vent on an auto carb. So if the float sticks or something jams the needle valve the fuel that backs up out of the vent will go down the venturi vs going on the outside of the carb on the intake. There are other differences as well.

    Second mortgage for a carb?

Correct you MUST use a marine carb. But if you compare the price of new auto Vs marine I bet there isn’t much difference. New carbs are just expensive regardless of auto vs marine. This is why knowing how to properly clean & rebuild a carb is a very valuable skill…

    Ok. Trailer time!

As far as inspections, I do my own lol. I fix anything that looks questionable every year, so much so that the boat yard that I use for bottom paint, always complements my trailer as being one of the few, that actually looks maintained (salt water). Just replaced the rusted roller bar pivot...

    88 omc 5.7 motor swap

Are you in a freshwater region? If so your manifolds & elbows may be re-usable. I still have my original Prestolite points distributor. If you go with Delco EST, or other electronic distributor, you're going have to change the original ESA module, if you still have it. CDI Electronics makes ESA...

find a place in the US, how much for shipping and duty? how close are you to the border, might be worth a trip for a 2 bbl carb, you can still buy a brand new Holley 2300 https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/marine_carburetors/ brand new....don't waste time with used carbs...

    Exhaust manifold discovery?

ahhh, wellll...YEAH Was this boat winterized? If so, how? if that's cracked check the other manifold and the sides of the block on both sides, as well as checking for water in the oil after firing it up.

    Ok. Trailer time!

Hey Bondo, So in NY you didn’t have to provide receipts for a home built just a weight slip in NY? At this point my old trailer is more home built than the Load Rite sticker & Vin on the frame rail…

    Ok. Trailer time!

I recall reading if you want to do that in NY, you have to provide receipts for materials, if not, there may be "a guy" who can get it done, for a price, lol. Mine is now like grandfather's axe. Same trailer but.... 2nd axle, 3rd set of springs 4th set of brakes, 2nd set of roller bars, and...

    Ok. Trailer time!

I'm looking at my current trailer reg for NY State and it says transferable, this is also a single axle trailer, so maybe it depends on the # of axles. Owned it 20 years never had a title, and I've renewed the reg every year. When I started driving 51 yeas ago, cars didn't have titles either...

    Ok. Trailer time!

What does your state DMV require? In NYS trailers have a registration & this is used to transfer ownership they do not have titles. Boats have both registration & titles and for the boat the title is used to transfer ownership. Small boats have only a registration no title; and outboard motors...
