how do you run an OMC TUFM-21C out of the water?

I have seen pix of a Chrysler engine with a Volvo drive, or maybe it was a Dana drive but it was not an OMC Stringer.....maybe that is what you have, post up pix. https://offerup.com/item/detail/867126627 Here's one that is labeled Chrysler Marine but is obviously a Volvo Penta 270.

2013 Volvo Penta 4.3GL Oil Pressure Drop & Valve Tapping / Rattle

This has been discussed for years with no real conclusion. Merc wants to sell their special oil, but Volvo, has recommended (first) straight 30 syn, then they changed it to 10/40 syn. So the oil they recommend is "special" too. Merc allows the 25/40 in conventional and 25/40 syn blend. They...

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

A leak down test will tell you if the rings/cylinders and valves are sealing well. However, it will not tell you how thin the cast iron is getting from raw water cooling. That's the big concern in salt water but this being a fresh water boat, it is not so much a concern. There really isn't an...

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I agree in that 1500 hrs in fresh water is use, but not excessive and fresh water engines can last 20-30 years as long as maintenance is done: engine oil changes ignition and fuel system maintained so it is not running too much spark advance, or running lean exhaust system is maintained so you...

2013 Volvo Penta 4.3GL Oil Pressure Drop & Valve Tapping / Rattle

Lower viscosity automotive oils thin out in marine use especially in engines that don’t have an oil cooler. Mercruiser has recommended the 25/40 for years. You could also use a 20/50. I’ve done 4 oil analyses on this same engine and the Merc/Quicksilver oils I have used maintain their viscosity...

2013 Volvo Penta 4.3GL Oil Pressure Drop & Valve Tapping / Rattle

That would be either a bearing issue or oil pump issue. All the time I have had my old 4.3; I haven’t had dropping oil pressure and engine noises, normal idle is 40 psi, it may drop to 20 after coming off plane as the oil gets hot but no change in noise. With more time idling as the oil cools...

4.3 OMC Cobra electric choke issue

It may be wired to the AC tap terminal on the alternator. Keep in mind for it to work it must also have a return path (ground). Post up a good close pic of the back side of your alternator.

    1993 285 Exhaust question

Yes on the Cobra at idle the exhaust water will come out right in front of the drive where the big anode is located. Not from prop. There are a couple of relief ports in the transom mount…

2013 Volvo Penta 4.3GL Oil Pressure Drop & Valve Tapping / Rattle

Also get a hold of a mechanics stethoscope so you can better locate the sound & compare it to either camshaft or crankshaft frequencies. A crankshaft/rotating assembly noise will be a very fast repeated sound whereas a camshaft/lifter noise will be a slower repeated sound because the cam turns...

ECM Swap ? Plug and play ???

The days of tinkering & modding by owners I think ended with carburetors. Modern engines are more like one integrated system, where mods are more complicated & expensive. Older boats with carbs are like hot rods of the 50s & 60s infinitely modifiable only limited by the owner’s budget &...

    Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI-E - Won't roll over

And those are much easier causes to put right than if you had water in the cyls/oil. Your plugs don’t suggest water in the cyls lucky!

    Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI-E - Won't roll over

You def do have plugs & should pull them right away to check for water in the cyls. If that’s the case you need to get water out of the cyls right away.

    Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI-E - Won't roll over

That does look milky. Might need resealing. You might have had a hydrolock; to verify remove the spark plugs & see if any have water or rust on them. See if will crank over with the plugs out & if water shoots out of the plug holes. Could come from faulty exhaust or blown head gasket. The drive...

Exhaust Manifold and Riser - HOT

Yep get the IR temp gun. I have Volvo style manifolds on my OMC. Idle is approx 95-100 (barely warm) after coming off plane the hottest they get is 125-135. If they get hotter by a significant margin I’d look at the impeller and/or exhaust elbows.
