Carbed 4.3 timing adjustment sanity check

9/16" you can get a special wrench for it. Hooked box end 12 pt, works quite well

Most likely mercruiser #1, possibly #2. Depends on the serial number of the engine

Carbed 4.3 timing adjustment sanity check

Should be using an advance timing light that you can adjust to desired idle timing. Line up the marks at the proper setting. Otherwise use a conventional light with timing tape on the balancer

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Run the boat under load at various rpm, 2000, 3500, WOT. Once running under load shut engine off while still in gear at current throttle setting. Inspect a few of the plugs to determine if carburetor jets/settings are rich, lean, or acceptable. Adjust carburetor accordingly. Repeat test at...

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Do a plug burn at various RPM. The newer the plugs the easier they are to read

1972 glas_ply need help with power tilt lines

There is a manifold block on the bottom of the gimbal housing that needs to be removed to replace the lines from the pump. Manifold block is held up by two nuts/studs. Remove the nuts, drop the block down remove old lines and gasket material. Install new gasket and lines, attach manifold block...

I Just Bought My First Boat. 1997 Sea Ray 175 3.0LX A1 G2. WHERE TO START PLEASE HELP!!

Quick easy way to see if transom is rotten is to stand on the drive partway trimmed up and gently bounce on the drive. Look for yourself or have a helper watch the transom for flex. You want no flex, if you see flex then then there is an issue and time to start drilling holes as stated earlier.

    Mercruiser 4.3 water in block

Have no idea how they are troubleshooting but for them to say the water is getting into the cylinders through the block but they feel the block and head gaskets are sound does not make sense. A cracked head could leak water into the combustion chamber. Most common cause of water in the...

Rinker 212/Volvo SX M Throttle Cable

Think you answered your own question again, 14ft? Best to remive the old cable entirely, check the ends for compatibility and measure on the floor. As stated most Volvo cables are 3300/33C cables, same ends (colloquially universal). Only curve they threw was during the OMC transition period with...

    Volvo Drive Issues

Yes, the XPD drives are bad. So bad volvo quit making them after only a short time and they don't offer replacement parts or support for them. Upgrade is to the current SX -A drive/transom assy. Any other Volvo drive is fine, look for the SX series drives (M older, A newer), they are pretty...

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Yeah, that was my misreading of your post regarding the vacuum line at the carburetor base. Thought I read fuel pump vacuum line (which does not exist) and thought of the diaphragm rupture safety hose. Past post edited. You can run any brand plug you like, just make sure it's the correct plug...

    Slight hesitation off idle 5.7

I thInk you should, it's what I would do. More interested in the fuel pressure than the compression at this point

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Good catch, that is a direct vacuum leak and would cause a lean issue It's great you have new fuel system components however you must ensure they are correct for your engine and properly adjusted. Again, have you checked/adjusted the timing? Would guess idle timing for your engine is 10 degrees...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Yes, and verify the shoe on the bell housing is straight along with the foot on the drive Good idea to verify the drive itself is in fact in fwd gear too, rotate the prop shaft as you install the drive to line up the splines with the coupler

    Mercruiser 4.3 knocking noise

Did you check/adjust timing? Clean/rebuild/adjust the carburetor? Use the correct spark plugs? If you can post a video with the noise, sometimes it's obvious to us, most times it isn't but worth a try

    Ford 302 spark plugs

Check/adjust timing, ensure carburetor is clean/adjusted/jetted properly, ensure fuel pump pressure is correct at all RPMs/under load

Alpha One Stalls in Reverse only when giving gas

Verify the shift cables (both of them) are adjusted properly. Then verify the throttle cable is adjusted properly. If everything is adjusted correctly and you are still having the issue it could be the lower shift cable is worn and binding just enough to activate the v notch/shift cut out switch

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Possible overthinking it, sounds to like it's an inconsistent rattle, not a rhythmic knock/noise I would associate with pinging/detonation. But I'm not in the boat with you...one test is to have a helper drive while you use a stethoscope to isolate the noise The plugs look good in the latest...

Trim tilt issue mercruiser no fluid going out/down

Yep. The bleed process is quite simple, add fluid to the top of the reservoir when the drive is full down/in. Run the drive up until the pump aerates, then back down. Top off again, repeat until drive makes full sweep up/down smoothly with no aeration. Top off reservoir when the drive is in the...

    2001 Mercruiser 5.7 TBI Won't Keep Running

Its possible you have an issue with the wiring harness, testing circuits for a short to ground is a good starting point. You are almost at the point of swapping components/parts between the motors. Twin engine setups are nice in that regard as you have a complete parts room in the bilge
