    Volvo 5.0 Overheating

Have you verified the engine exits water sufficiently? Is the coolant level within spec? Is the gauge reading correct?

    Lack of power

After the tune up did you check/set timing and adjust the carburetor?

Over heating 4.3, 1995 non vortec

I don't get it, this is a fresh rebuild and it's going back to the shop to check/adjust timing? Not sure how an exhaust manifold can allow water out too fast. There needs to be a constant supply of fresh cooling water from the sea water pump to the t-stat housing, water is allowed out via the...

1987 chaparral 5.7 rough idle and bog under a load

Perhaps. Did you inspect/adjust the carburetor or just install it and run? Inspect contents/change fuel filter(s)? May check fuel pump pressure/vacuum. New pumps can (rarely) be bad/fail. Have you verified if it's choking out on fuel or is it lack of fuel? When was the last full tune up?

    Stingray mercruiser 3.0 engine problem

Dead as in key on, no beep, no gauges or have beep/gauges but no crank/turn over or engine turns over but does not start/run?

5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

You mentioned early on in the thread the engine ran great with the tach disconnected but you fail to mention if you further troubleshot the tach/wiring. Try running it with the tach disconnected. First disconnect from the gauge and run it. If the symptoms are still there disconnect it from the...

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Setting screws per the book is a starting point, you must fine tune them to the engine once warm, running with the choke fully open. Vacuum can be measured by installing a barb fitting in the intake, normally behind the carburetor

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Have you set the idle air mixture? Checked vacuum at idle? You want to see 15-18 in/hg

    Mercruiser 3.0 water by-pass theory

Sounds like you're already at the point of needing a manifold and riser replacement. Can't imagine anyone here who regularly gives sound advice approving your "bypass theory". All I can say is that it is your boat/engine and you can do what you like but if I saw this setup you're considering...

    Penta 5.0 GXI overheating

When it comes to rubber parts and electrical parts OEM is the only way to go. Hoses and starters/alternators are pretty decent aftermarket but fine parts like bellows, pumps, tune up parts, etc...aftermarket is not reliable Have you checked for any leaks when the engine is running and cooling...

Timing curve for VP 7.4 with EST ignition

Would guess it's in the upper 30 to lower 40 range. 454 can handle up to 43ish naturally aspirated. Give it a WOT run and verify timing is advancing and WOT RPM is within the specified range

1997 mercruiser 350 mag loss of power

Yes, a water separating fuel filter would be located between the tank and the pump. Most likely a spin on, oil filter style. If this is a Rochester or 2bbl mercarb there is a screen filter in the carburetor in the housing where the fuel line attaches

4.3L MPI 2007 Searay Sport 185. Single Alarm at 20 RPMs and higher

Again, as stated very early in thus thread all mercruiser efi engines are equipped with a diagnostic harness connection to communicate with the ecm. Unless someone has for some weird reason abated the plug, it is there. My WAG as to why your mechanic does not see one is that they don't know what...

1997 mercruiser 350 mag loss of power

Could be any number of items. As stated check the contents of the fuel filter(s). Fuel pump/supply issues. Tune up related issues, cap/rotor, plugs, wires, timing, etc... Is this carbureted or efi?

    1994 horizon 180 omc cobra 5.0

Thermostat rarely causes an overheat issue, at least not nearly as often as a weak/failed sea water pump impeller which should be replaced as part of routine maintenance. OMC did use a "vented" exhaust bellows for idle relief and it's possible that style of bellows made it to the crossover...

gearcase lube won't pump past valve assembly

Based on your post, questions and issues it would seem you are working on an alpha gen 2? If so, yes the mechanic is correct. Fill the drive to the upper vent hole, install the plug with a new gasket ensuring the old one was completely removed, then do the same at the lower fill/drain plug. You...

    Engine backfires around 2500 rpm

Check for a lean condition, fuel filter(s), fuel pump pressure/vacuum, incorrect timing, ignition system components old/failing

    Power Trim Up not working

Most likely trim limit switch located on port side of gimbal ring is misadjusted or has failed

    OUTDRIVE

No need to yell Remove rear cover, remove shift linkage pin, trunking and jam nut. Remove hinge pin(s). Remove six mounting nuts. Remove drive. Have a stand or helper ready to aid, drive is heavy and awkward

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Most likely clogged idle circuit. If the fuel can't make it through the idle circuit it is forced to travel up to the venturis and the result you see is the dripping. Since that area is not meant to control idle the result is a poor air/fuel mixture resulting in poor idling. If you close the...
