2007 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI randomly stalls

You mentioned cap/rotor replaced but what about plugs/wires? Fuel filters inspected/replaced? I'd be suspect of fuel delivery at first, verify good pressure/vacuum at all rpm/load ranges. If smartcraft is beeping there is a good chance a code is active and likely being stored as a result...

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

Well, yes some of the the AQ series had the reverse lock mechanism but the last AQ drives available were in the mid to late 90's. Since then the SX/Cobra series have had either an oildyne pump or the new style which is mounted in the gimbal housing with access from the outside of the boat. Still...

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Could be the choke just needs adjusted. Whenever one rebuilds a carburetor it is imperative to ensure the choke is operating properly and the idle air mixture is set correctly. A vacuum gauge can help fine tune the idle air mixture but isn't completely necessary especially for a non performance...

    1977 16ft galaxy runabout 2.5 mercruiser

Not sure about the boat but if it's that old in good shape it has stood the test of time, just check close for rot in the floor, stringers and transom. As far as the motor and drive goes they don't get much more reliable than the GM inline 4 industrial motors such as the 2.5L and 3.0L. Of...

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

The piston in the trim ram is what holds the drive up/down, along with the fluid on either side of the piston in the ram and the check valves in the pump. My guess is it is very similar to the oildyne pump system and has a release valve/pop off in the piston for severe underwater strikes

    Fuel pump whine

The pump(s) will always have a slight whine to them, especially the high pressure ones

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

You replaced just the pump not the cover? In any case, if the cover isn't leaking and lines are sound the issue is most likely the rams

7.4mpi just started running rough and with gas coming out exhaust

Agree on checking spark at all cylinders especially since plugs were just changed. Will state too that the 7.4 MPI Mefi controlled efi fuel system went through a few changes in design over the years. First check would be that all the vaccum lines related to the fuel presure regulator(s) are...

    DPS-b drive lifts in reverse

IME these style Volvo pumps, colloquially known a SX-A drives have a high rate of failure on both the trim pump/line assy and the rams. Most common failure is the pump or rams fail to keep the drive up/out when trailered/stored. For a while Volvo was giving the pumps to customers as warranty and...

Bellows inspection check what do You think

Common for all mercruiser transom assys. Mercury recommends replacing all bellows every five years as routine maintenance. Looking at these pics it's been way longer than five years and there appears to be age cracking on the u joint bellows. If you are unsure of maintenence history or know it's...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

If coming from the bottom of the gimbal housing it could be the gasket for the trim hose manifold block mounted to the bottom of the housing (exterior side), transom seal gasket, or lower through bolt/anode assy (if equipped). If dripping from above could be y-pipe seal, bellows, etc....

How do you know when to replace the tensioner or belt?

Have seen tensioner housings crack, springs fail/break, pulleys break, and bearings fail. Best to remove the belt and tensioner, inspect for damage and wear on the belt, replace as needed. The video shows little belt dust on and around the engine, not uncommon for Volvo belts to shed a lot of...

    Fuel pump whine

Could be a restriction up or down stream of the pump assy. First check for me would be tank pick up and anti siphon valve, then work my way to the pump. If all is good try a new water separator. After that if still noisy check after the pump, fuel rail/injectors. If there is no runnability issue...

I Just Bought My First Boat. 1997 Sea Ray 175 3.0LX A1 G2. WHERE TO START PLEASE HELP!!

It's not forum etiquette, nor did you upset anyone. It is a general understanding and has been for the past 20+ years that all caps on the internet/text/email/etc...is to be taken by the reader as yelling. Also, people are trying to help. Keep in mind in post #3 you asked for advice on testing...

    Engine alarm help

You can test the alarm speaker at the dash by verifying it has a good 12 volt (+) supply, then remove the tan/blue wire and provide a good ground. The alarm should sound. If not, the alarm itself is bad and needs replaced. The alarm should sound momentarily at key on, engine not running to...

I Just Bought My First Boat. 1997 Sea Ray 175 3.0LX A1 G2. WHERE TO START PLEASE HELP!!

Nobody here is saying OP has a rotten transom. It was merely suggested that OP inspect the transom for rot. Reason being as stated the age, brand, quality, history, and issue noted by OP. The persons suggesting the inspection are experienced boat owners, mechanics, boat repair enthusiasts, and...

2009 350 mag mis at wide open.

Crank position sensor is most likely not your issue. It's basically an on/off switch that senses a reluctor wheel on the crank, hall effect style. CPS is basically works or doesn't, no intermittent issue. It's not a bad idea to check it for wear, it can "loosen" on engines with higher hours and...
