Lumpy idle after carb rebuild | Holley 2300 | Volvo Penta 3.0 GS

If you didnt get the passages clean by chemical and mechanical means, and blown out with compressed air that is likely the reason for continued issues. I have had really good luck with a small HF ultrasonic cleaner have used both carb cleaner and simple green ( to keep from removing paint on...

A rebuild is cheap and easy to do. stop wasting money on fuel cleaners generally only will lighten your wallet. Interrupt switch is only coming out of gear. You can try turning idle speed crew in a hair to bump up idle speed , can try turning idle mix screw to see if it responds. Get a factory...

Engine Swap Over - First Oil Selection

Go with Rotella conventional (T4). When I got my repower from michigan motorz they required use of rotella for break in. No synthetic for 100 hrs. I used conventional quicksilver 25-40 then at 100 hrs switched to mobil one

    Mercruiser Shifting Issues

How about a little description of what was happening , exactly what was replaced in what order (oem parts or aftermarket), and what is happening now . Throw on thing to try assuming it is a gen 2 drive - if you have the shift assist cylinder on there try taking it off. I think it was intended...

Sounds like you need a carb rebuild. Save the carb cleaner for when you get the carb apart as you need to clean the inside passages. Likely your idle mixture passages are clogged with debris. Would also take the fuel filter off and check it for water and debris. On most 3.0's this is in the...

    Merc prop selector

Shifts fine, yes it is heavier than the avg prop. A lot of outboards use the same dog clutch as an alpha so not an uncommon situation.

    Mercruiser 4.3L lift points

Yes if you can get the yoke in you should be ok. Your alignment tool may not be made correctly. I think there is a dimensioned drawing in the stickies

    Dieseling 3.0

I used seafoam dribbled down the carb eventually stalling the engine, let it soak in 15 min , then run the engine and burn it off. This did help the dieseling. Merc also makes an aerosol called power tune to do similar

    Merc prop selector

As others have mentioned I would try an Enertia or Revolution 4. You want to prop it like your current to hit the upper end of WOT. I have similar size Sea Ray 200 sport with a 5.0 with Edlebrock 4 bbl, so probably a few ponies shy of your 5.0 mpi. A lot of folks here dont like 4 blades but...

Break in procedure for new '77 Merc 140hp

If you have good water pressure and a good size hose you wont have any issue doing the cam break in on the trailer. I don't think you need to go quite as high as 3 k normally I have done 1-2 k. Make sure to use ZDDP additive or an oil that has it for break in. I use these style muffs no issue-...

You are fine with torn missing or destroyed exhaust bellows. Having seen how well the merc stuff holds up , it’s not worth the time you put into doing the work to deal with pos parts that don’t fit or don’t last
