motors are sold for good and bad reasons.... upgrades, age,, loss of interest, granpa died.... and seized solid like mine I paid 50$ ...cdn ! with the break-in instructions still stuck on the side. after 60 + years
did you try rotating the side knob which limits the throttle handle rotation
this used to set the low limit to keep the engine idling properly rather than dyding out at to low a RPM rate. .
when the idle is set properly just use the kill button switch to stop the engine.
2 theories.... old ones are built better ...some are 60 years old and still run great if you don't mind an oldy parts available easy to fix basic issues like ignition carbs etc...
new ones are better probably lighther, use less gas run at 50/1 oil mix but a 2 stroke is a 2 stroke...
Canadian Tire has their brand... don't know what multi-purpose oil is but just use the proper gearcase oils which have ..apparently special components to tolerate small water intrusions.
yes very sexy but any N.O. switch will do even a wireless one but you need a battery to get it to work (the one for the depth sounder is fine)
choking works to :-)...
don't mess with the 50 year old design...
any "normally open" push switch can be used to kill the magneto by shorting the points... lots of them on amazon
smoke... are you using quality TCW/ oil ? smoke is good for bugs at low speed :)
you can try some more fancy synthetic bio oil like XD-100 $$$ and it contains carbon guard.
but.....run it no less than 25/1 !!!
at lower rpms they may have a tendency to load up more due to the accumulation...
great find ... I would replace the tilt limit because it is certainly not the weakest link .
as per this etec diagram....see tilt limit switch in series with the UP switch via the blue white !!
as per the typical diagram tilt activation switches recieve +12v from the battery or via a switched function . the relay core windings are grounded and waiting to be activated up or down by the switches 12v .
the relays role is to alternate the application of power and ground to the blue...
Carbon tet was used in old fire extingishers...dad a fireman always told be it was nasty stuff for lungs to ! Best to keep away from it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_tetrachloride
the basic 2 wire T&T is fairly simple. Since your motor works fine with direct power application on major headache is taken care of.
the rest is mecanical (relays) or a wiring issue up side( likely oxydation because there is little if any bending flexing of those wires to cause a...
EV Carbon Guard and EV "2+4D stabilizer are good products is use in my ETEC .
Carbon Guard is also included in XD-100 synt. oil by Evinrude but $$$$
and.... Sea foam did wonders on my snowblower kick-ups . and back-fires.
Everybody has an opinion.
look up the utubes on the guy...
