    Mercruiser 4.3 Delco Distributor Question

marine ignition systems are spark protected meaning if there are fuel vapors present they will have little to no chance of causing a fire or worse most auto ignition modules do not have the same timing advance curve that a marine module does is there an issue with the current (i'm guessing)...

2003 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL - Engine starts and runs for about a 15 seconds but won't stay running.

did you check fuel pump pressure AND vacuum? fuel filter(s)? have you verified that you are losing voltage at the coil or elsewhere?

Part Identification and Schematic Help Needed

pull the drive, yes. do NOT need to separate the halves there is a piece of square aluminum stock with a threaded hole the plug will screw into. you need to hold the piece of aluminum in place while installing the plug. the plug is there to drain any water that may have been trapped inside to...

Volvo Penta GSI crank no start not your typical crank no start

i'd start by checking fuel pressure, both low and high

    73' mercruiser rewire

it is recommended to NOT use the coil washers with the new style rear mounts (from mercruiser). i would not because the new style mounts are "taller" than the old style meaning they are already at the proper height for the coupler to be square with the gimbal housing/bearing did you also...

    New starter solenoid kills everything.

sounds like the new solenoid is the issue. what is most confusing is how after a period of time say, your disconnecting and reconnecting of the battery the system has full power my immediate thought is the 50A breaker in the engine harness has tripped but it is not a thermal breaker i.e. it...

    OMC engine carburetor gas leak

that is a welch plug for the float bowl still available from holley, remove the float bowl, drill a hole in the plug and pry it out with a punch. to replace it use a fuel specific sealer and punch the center of the plug with a socket of a diameter roughly half the size of the plug. this will...

    Bouncing timing mark

ohms testing of the wires is okay, it's better to do a kv test - this will tell you what voltage is actually travelling along the wire, it can change with load, heat, rpm, age of wires, etc... fouled plugs are just that, fouled. there's no way to get them back to original or good, you're best...

    Guess the part

most everything on a boat is repairable, depends on how in depth you want to go as stated, you are best off to pull the drive, motor and gimbal housing/inner plate and clean/inspect

Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi Knocking – Suggestions needed.

if it were the drive knocking that loud to be heard like that on a video i would guess the issue would quite apparent, however can't rule it out at this point revving the engine on the muffs with no load won't tell you much, the engine doesn't need much fuel for that, even running lean won't...

    2012 Starcraft Limited 2000 I/O Question

MCT? mercruiser model designations are MCM, MIE and EC most, but not all 4.3 liter engines use a 1.62 drive ratio. the ratio should also be printed next to the drive serial number located on the port side of the driveshaft (upper) housing post your engine and drive serial numbers, those with...

Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi Knocking – Suggestions needed.

sounds nasty could be a lean condition/detonation, check timing and fuel pump pressure throughout rpm range. probably time for a full tune up too could also be internal engine issue but hard to tell from video

    Bouncing timing mark

you mentioned in your op that it was at idle in base mode? throttling up is required, sometimes higher than 1200 but no more than 1500 rpm did you replace the plugs, cap and rotor?

Where is the Fuel Pump/Cooler assembly on a Mercruiser 4.3L MPI?

that's the cool fuel iii, located along the stringer between the motor mount and block. most likely port side

    Bouncing timing mark

the service/timing tool should lock the timing into base mode so it wont advance. with the service tool attached run the engine to 1000-1200 rpm, timing should hold steady allowing you to set properly

Have an 87 fourwinns that has not been used in 6 years Engine appears frozen

i think you mean your engine is "seized" meaning the internals are stuck/rusted in place. on this forum saying the engine is frozen conjures other thoughts and courses of action pull the drive and try to turn the engine, possible the issue is drive related, otherwise... use a high quality...

5.0 mpi stalls for a sec randomly at idle

check all battery connections including starter main and engine ground in the past i've found a faulty ground connection to be the culprit in similar situations after that a computer diagnostic tool may be required to see if the beep is coinciding with any fault codes
