    I have two toggle switches that energize when the IGN key is on but I have no idea what they are connected to, if they are original or added. The black knob is a dimmer for the gauges. They have wires connected that disappear and I can't find out where they go.

    I experienced a crazy tach and a tip I picked up in a thread recommended I turn the selector switch to clean it up. So far so good.

    Your discription of the oil is vague, if your motor has sat all week with water in it you have a problem.

    Just a thought, you may want to mic the alignment tool, according to some threads I have read, they can be out of spec from the manufacturer. I put an oil drain hose on my last boat and loved it.

    Boat sat in the lake all last winter and the bottom got nasty, it's still discolored some, I sanded the dirt out of the water line but that's as far as I'm going.

    A compression test on the cylinders when it's cold may give you an answer.

    Don't know what model of boat you have but if it's similar to mine and you had ankle deep water on the deck you had a full bilge and a lot of things got submerged. An automatic bilge pump would have been helpful. Good luck.

    Sailing was my first adventure with boats and will always be a love but sadly I have not kept up with current stuff. That small boat could be rigged in several ways so when you get into it I will offer what I can. For now clean it up and check all the rigging fittings, and see what you have.
