Losing Power - After two hours

strange issue for sure, at this point it sounds like either fuel or ignition, tachometers can be wonky if they are getting an intermittent signal. at this point i'd recommend a full tune up, including fuel filter(s). check to make sure the ignition sensor in the distributor is the latest style...

Losing Power - After two hours

4.3 carb, guessing alpha drive when over revved what is rpm? is this in gear or neutral? loosing power usually indicates a fuel supply issue, can't say for the over rev other than possibly fuel pump/system "catching up" and engine responding to it

    Mercruiser 4.3 cracked intake manifold

when you say you pulled the plug and drained the water at winterize do you mean the square head pipe plug at the fwd of the intake? in any case that is a freeze crack and intake manifold must be replaced you mention a cracked head? guessing you meant intake, in that case yes the temp gauge...

    Engine Dies When Hot

agree, have not seen that aside from changing parts and running the engine i don't see much troubleshooting going on here. its in your interest to check for spark immediately upon the engine dying as i stated before, there is really no need to purchase a suspected failed part, just swap from...

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

yes, it's not a good idea to have a filter on the pressure side of the pump. also, as mike states hard line should be used on the pressure side, or braided approved fuel line with flared connections. if you are concerned about filtering the fuel you can add one prior to the pump, but a water...

Testing Alpha one Gen 2 water pump with no gear oil

Guardian mode activation with no explanation from gauge

my guess is the in gear/neutral switch is either misadjusted or has failed. ecm thinks the drive is in neutral and will trigger rev limiter/overspeed fault even though the drive is in gear. switch is located on the shift plate freeze frame history can tell you if there is/are faults pertaining...

Sea water pump impeller vanes flipped to the wrong way . . . ???

its possible that yes, the engine did rotate slightly opposite normal rotation upon shut down. this may have caused the pump/impeller to rotate opposite. in any case with the vanes flipped in the wrong direction and having sat for a while they most likely have a set and will not easily return to...

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

that's not good, pressure should not be dropping when rpm increases also, get rid of that in line fuel filter, there should be no in line filter on the output side of the fuel pump as far as the vacuum, it's fine that you checked it between the tank and the separator, 4 in/hg is too high but...

    Help quickly please

this is my understanding as well, your heads will not fit correctly on a mark iv block and vice versa, also i believe mark iv blocks have a machined area for a block mounted fuel pump whereas gev v and newer do not, hence the water pump/fuel pump assy on carbed gen v engines as stated your...

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

4 psi might be okay for lower rpm speeds but once the boat planes or trying to get on plane pressure should be a steady 6-7 psi it is in your interest to check fuel system vacuum as well, should be no more than 2 in/hg at all times

Alpha One Gen 1 grinds going into gear

install the threaded stopper until it bottoms out with the cable end, then back it off just til the shift slide rotates freely on the cable. then install the safety wire sounds as if you have too much play in the slide, or there is wear in one or more shift linkages/cables
