Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

being an efi volvo and based on your description/diagnose over the phone i'd say your mechanic is on the right track. and yeah, price sounds relative to parts and labor (not sure of the shop rate). those pumps are spendy, especially the dual pump assys. testing the fuel pump pressure(s) will be...

4.3 blows 15a fuse when you throttle up

you mentioned in your op, that a 15 amp fuse was in place of the breaker? a fuse will blow if there is a short to ground or the current in the circuit exceeds the rating of the fuse, my guess is the latter in your case. could be due to corrosion, loose connection, etc... i can't recall ever...

    No water out of outdrive

    1. top, bottom hose goes to t-stat housing 2. no 3. yes, but probably not part of your issue 4. yes, but probably not part of your issue most likely what is happening is the sea water pump impeller has a set and is having a difficult time priming on the muffs (common for brass housing pumps if...

    Ignition switch failing?

the ignition fuse is most likely at the fuse panel not in-line, i think an in-line fuse was merely suggested for you B = battery constant 12 volts I = ignition, 12 volts in the "run" position S = start, 12 volts in the "start" position easy to test with a voltmeter

I screwed up! Did I damage anything?

probably didnt damage anything, the gimbal bearing does rotate quite a bit and seeing as how the alignment is good now there's little chance of any damage

87 bayliner ciera 2450 will not shift out of forward, any suggestions??

guessing this is an older style aq/dp drive? could be simple as a cable adjustment possible other causes would be remote control issue, shift linkage at drive, shift foot binding in clutch/clutch issue...

    Impeller housing

it may, and probably will at some point another issue is that it may draw air and cause the pump to not work properly resulting in an overheat the replacement pump is solid brass unlike the original (as shown) which has plastic barbs pressed into the brass housing

    No spark while cranking

might be the module but most suspect for no spark on a thunderbolt is the ignition sensor in the distributor

engine stalls when shifting back on forth a lot

could be the lower cable hanging up and causing the shift interrupt switch to stay engaged too long may be time to replace the lower cable
  14. D

Drive won't engage in forward gear. Reverse works fine

verify cable adjustment is correct, if still no go may have to replace lower cable or there is an issue with the shift linkages

    Lower Unit?

you didn't post any rpm readings

    Turning engine off noise

dieseling, not healthy for any gasoline engine likely causes are running rich, improper timing, idle speed too high, carb settings/needing rebuild, etc... best to start with a full tune up including fuel filter(s)

Rebuilt Mercruiser 140/3.0 doesn’t have enough power to plane

a lot of info here... first off, get a new distributor cap points are set by using a dwell meter, feeler gauge is okay for initial set up but a dwell meter is used for final adjustment idle timing isnt a range of 6-10, depending on the vintage it should be either 6 or 8 btdc. engine info tag...

    Engine rotation

yes, boats of that vintage with twin engines usually had one standard rotation engine and one counter rotated engine. Standard rotation engines rotate counterclockwise looking from the back/flywheel end, counter rotated engines rotate clockwise looking from the flywheel end generally speaking...

    Lower shift cable behavior?

shift interrupt switch should not be engaging when shifting into either gear, it is designed to engage when shifting from gear into neutral, this is of course under a load. it is near impossible to inspect shift interrupt switch behavior without a load in your case without a load, the shift...
