Can you guess how much I paid for all this?

Good stuff. See if you can bring that therobred motor out of retirement. They were the most HP from 300LBS , for along time I had a 1500 for decades Really good motor

1987 mercury 115 bogs after full throttle

A 1987 IL6 motor will have ADI ignition. The battery is not used to generate spark. If you had an ignition issue, the motor would not start at all.

Can I wire a electric choke switch

You can, however, those choke switches last a real long time. I would open the control and see what the issue is. Maybe the wiring is bad. Your other option is to change the ign switch to a push to choke model.

    Mercury 40 hp two stroke

Most Mercs have the neutral switch in the control box. On thing you can try is to hold the key in the start position and rock the throttle. Often that will help the neutral switch work properly. You can test for +12VDC on the solenoid, when the keyswitch is in the start position. Also check...

Do docking whips work on 15 ft bowrider

Mooring whips work on a large variety of boats, yours's included. As was suggested, you will want to use spring lines, plus bow and stern lines, in addition to the mooring whips. The mooring whips are used to pull the boat away from the dock. My dock is exposed to the NE wind, which is...

    Anchor Rope

3/8" is fine for that Jon boat. I moved from 3/8" to 1/2" on my 21 footer out of fear. Some years ago, I broke down in the inlet. While waiting for a tow, the anchor got caught in a rock. When we pulled hard on that 3/8" line to retrieve the anchor, it sure thinned it out and it looked...

1987 mercury 115 bogs after full throttle

If she gets to full throttle and then dies suspect a fuel delivery issue. Have someone pump the primer bulb while accelerating and see if that fixes it. If so, rebuild the fuel pump, clean the fuel filters. If the primer bulb collapses, the fuel tank vent is likely clogged.

    What are these for, Please?

Even with an original wiring diagram, I would trace 'em out. A lot can happen in 28 years.

    Anchor Rope

Gee, I bought 300' of 1/2" 3 strand nylon line on the web for $40. You can find some bargains on the web. I am able to splice in the thimble myself, so I did not need to buy a package from a marine store for a lot more $$.

    What are these for, Please?

You need to trace them out, as boat wiring is not always standard. Pink is usually fuel sender or bilge pump. Purple/red is usually switched +12VDC, but without tracing them, it is a wild guess.

    No longer made in USA

Fatsurf So you are in favor of child labor? So we should send the next generation in their teens, into the coal mines, factories or the mills? That is a terrible idea, IMO. They need to grow up, get the appropriate amount of education and take their place in society. If the mines are...

    $250 Boat in my possession!!

The good news is that the motor is a design that was made for many, many years. It looks to be a longshaft (20") that works on many boats. A carb kit and some new ign coils and points could fix it up. Of course, it looks like your boat is a short shaft (15"). However it is hard to tell.

    Any tricks for wire corrosion

Gee, the best answer I know of, is to clean them up with fine sandpaper. The finer the better, separate the strands to get the corrosion off. As far as I know there is no chemical shortcut Then tin them with a large soldering iron, using plenty of flux. Flux new crimp on connectors and...

    $250 Boat in my possession!!

Thaw her out and clean out the junk from the hull. Now check the hull and deck for rot. I would be real surprised if any of the wood supporting the fiberglass is sound.

    No longer made in USA

Ding, so you are saying that child labor overseas is a myth? On a related subject, Arkansas is trying to allow more child labor, according to their newest legislation. Go Sarah Huckabee Sanders.....show those foreign companies what USA child labor can do.

    No longer made in USA

Gee, South Korea makes Hyundai autos, LG appliances and lots of other good quality stuff. They have a competitive economy for now. The real issue is that some stuff is not made in America because it would cost too much, and would therefore sit on the shelves forever. Jobs left when the USA...

    Motor weight question..

I would not expect that weight difference to be an issue.

    Why Oil Injection?

Gee, a lot of info here. Some of it is even accurate. Oil injection on modern carb or EFI 2 cycle engines mixes 2 cycle oil with gasoline in the fuel pump and fuel lines, on the way to the carbs or fuel injectors. Oil injection is more convenient (to some) than pre-mixing. Oil injection...

too much outboard for the boat?

The motor is probably OK for the boat HP wise. I would not think the weight is an issue either.

    Question about my engine wiring

New engine harnesses are likely available as well. You might price one out. Sierra or another aftermarket manufacturer likely makes them as does the OEM.
