    normally that post gets a feed from the rectifier to enable the charging system to backfeed to the battery ... another goes to the front ignition key via fuse https://maxrules.com/graphics/omc/wiring/77-78_55HP.jpg see diagram of an older engine... see solenoid left post at the bottom fat...

    motors stop from lack of fuel ( bad filteringf blocked carb orifices etc...) . lack of sparks,heat and lack of basic care .... carb and magneto on a 2hp does not get simpler has mentionned by racerone see 3hp... 2hp has only one coil ...

    odd your top coil is wired to the bottom plug and vice versa maybe it is normal.... or the control leads from the magneto to the coils are reversed...
