What is your definition of good compression? In the pic of the housing with the gray goop running out...is there a ding in the housing or just a funky angle??

    Need some help fellas !!

While a battery isn't necessary to start it, you might find using the electric starter much easier than pull starting a 40 hp !! If it has set for some time, that might take a lot of pulling !!

My built in radio has a power switch as well as the on/ off button, when the power switch is off, the meter shows NO power going to the radio at all, yet the memory stays, all winter long !! Guessing a built in battery ?? Lawn mower is similiar...removed the battery over the winter, but the...

How do you guys mix Gas

The new oils are far better mixing than ever, but are you a gambler??? Some are, some aren't !! Being from the old days and not willing to gamble on a 5K outboard motor, I will stick with what I know works ! Some folks are very lucky or fortunate to have had sucess without trying.

Aerator water Pump & drain overflow port.

On my old 14' from years back, you either drained it when out of the water, or you flipped a valve and it would suck the water out while underway...kind of a goofy setup but ut worked. I never use a livewell, if I keep it, I eat it, otherwise it goes back.. My two livewells are plugged and...

How do you guys mix Gas

I learned to read my gas gage, tested it by addung 5 gallons at a time to an empty tank and marking it accordingly. Now I can look at my gage and know how much gas I need within 5 gallons. Who cares if my gas tank is filled to the tippy top !! I add oil for what gas I will be putting in, then...

    Not running at full throttle

A simple test is to squeeze the ball when it stumbles, if it gets better then fuel flow is an issue. Carbs need to be close to perfect in being clean and adjustment. Often the rubber gaskets act as a pump or diaphrsm of some sort to move fuel mixes thru and these rubber parts fatigue and need...

    Not running at full throttle

What is your definetion of perfect shape? Numbers? Did you do a complete rebuild of the carbs and set them to factory specs as noted in the rebuikd kit or just clean them? Fuel pump pressure?

    trim tabs or not?

Trim tabs might help slightly, but probably not enough to make them worthwhile. Being a bigger boat it sits taller in the water so wind will have an effect. Being a heavy boat, once it starts moving off course, the weight is slower to get back under control. Finding that sweet spot can be...

    Tritoon speed verses rpm

As your rpm increases, so will your speed to some degree. Due to slippage there is not a direct corolation between speed and rpm. Think of it as changing the gear ratio in your vehicle. Pontoons are more challenging to calculate due to excess drag in the water. If you have a prop shop in your...

    1980 3.0L strange overheat issue

Check your head for flatness, the 3.0 are noted for there heads warping if overheated. Had to do mine a few years back when a belt broke. You have it apart anyway, so fix it right. Check the block as well with a good straight edge, normally the head but blocks have been known to warp as well...

    Stalling and Starting problems

Had a similiar issue a few years back on my I/O. Run great at speed and choppy water, but slow speed and idle along with starting was an issue. Minevturned out to be water in the fuel, check your water seperator, if you dont have one, get one. As it turned out the water was comming in thru...
