    Bilge Pumps

I have used Sahara bilge pumps with great sucess, they come in an all in one package, a screen to keep out debris, built in float switch, etc. Just wire and put in place. Been in my boat for almost 12 years...

    Boat ramp courtesy

Keep in mind, that over the past few years during the pandemic, most drivers recieved their drivers license by driving around a course set up in a parking lot !! The first winter after this proceedure was started, the US saw the highest number of accidents ever recorded by new drivers. ...

    Explosion and Fire Danger

When I had my I/O, the fuel tank was under a seat in an enclosed box. I bought a round circle vent with a screen and mounted on the side of the seat box. Easy acess so I could stick my nose there and smell for fuel !! Then always be sure to cycle your bilge blower beforevturning on the...

What type transom straps do you prefer

My bow eye tucks up under the bow roller fairly tight, then I gave a snug safety chain attached to the frame and then a tight winch strap, sovthe boat has no where to go forward. Thought of this before, but all my boats with over center latch transom straps have hadvthe same issue....comming...

    First plane ride/snow !

Hear ya....I would reallynlike snow if it was 70 degrees. Ohio here, not much of a winter this year. I do enjoy plowing snow in my heated side x side when we get enough....the problem is getting back into the warm house when I am done...long cold walk from the barn!

From what I have read, they need to be lubed a couple times a season, if not, you see the issues!! My boat gets watered frequently so mabey I should stick with something that doesn' t get dunked !!! Being retired has it's advantages and I do enjoy a nice boat ride whether I fish or not. Just...

What type transom straps do you prefer

Yes, the ones with the yellow protector are the ones I have. No matter how tight I snug them they are loose after a 15 mile drive. They dont get loose enough to fall of, but there is no tension on them at all. Hadvthe same straps with a different name on my 22' as well, same thing, never...

What type transom straps do you prefer

Beginning to think I might go back to a ratcheting gunwale strap...no place to mount the retracting units. The boat buckle units don't hold very well. Thinking a 15' long ratchet strap over the gunnel will give me a place on the trailer frame to attach them. Have always had good sucess with...

What type transom straps do you prefer

Due to the design of my Loadrite trailer, I gave no place to mount them, those are what I was looking at. The rear of my trailer is nothing but roller assemblies, the closest frame section is about 3 ft forward, would have to litterly crawl up and under to acess these. This 72 yr old is long...

I hear ya ! My safety chain on the front is attached to the frame in case the winch stand fails. My transom straps are rated for 2500 lbs each, total boat/ motor wt is 1500 max. My problem is the straps just dont stay tight and the boat is definetly not moving forward !!

What type transom straps do you prefer

My straps are much greater than I need, when it comes to my boat/ my life I don't skimp. Total boat/ motor weight is about 1500 lbs or less with two inch wide straps rated for 2500 lbs each, they just dont stay tight!

What type transom straps do you prefer

Thanks for all the replies, it appears that the over center buckle is more popular, but in my case, they often loosen up while transporting my boat. So...do I have the wrong kind, poor quality, which ones work best ? The current models I have are the boat buckle with yellow rubber protector...

What type transom straps do you prefer

OK folks, my current boat ( 16' Sylvan alum) is in need of new transom tie down straps. It currently has the over center buckle quick release type like my prevuous boat had ( 22' Islander) ...I have been looking at ratchet type straps as the over center style seems to come loose frequently...

    Which fuel to use?

Once again big daddy ( US Gov't) tells the manufacturers that there engines must be designed to run on 87 octane fuel, same with autos. Many mfgrs will state there vehicles are designed to run on 87 octane to meet gov't requirements....but actual performance will be better using higher octane...

    Johnson evinrude drain plug washer

I always inspect the washer, screw and the seat, if anything has any sign of damage, repair and a new washer/gasket is used. I do not moor my boat so I can do visual checks frequently for any sign of leaking, so I rarely change the washer unless there is an issue. With that said...if I were...

    Starter not engaging after running

Being easy and cheap try checking your battery...a full charge is 12.6 volts and above, 12 volts is actually a dead battery, anything below 12.2 needs charged. Getting a load test is usually free at most auto centers..
