    low compression #2 cylinder - 1988 suzuki dt85

By the looks of those cylinders, you will probably be better off finding a replacement engine. If the cylinders look that bad, I would hate to guess what the crank and bearings look like. Appears to be lack of lube in my opinion. If you have to pay for a complete rebuild...ouch, if your skilled...

You stated motor wont turn over and run...is it overheating and starting to seize up?? I would pull the plugs, get compression checked and look at cylinder walls for any scuffing.

    surging issue

I have saw fresh fuel have water and otger crap in it. There are certain stations I wont buy gas at because they have a reputation of poor gas. Just a reminder...never get gas when the delivery truck is dropping off, or has just dropped off a load as it stirs up any crap on the bottom of the...

    1970 4HP Johnson

Those older motors ran a heavier oil mix in the gas than newer motors so you will see more oily residue left behind. I can remember the old add a quart of oil to 6 gallons of gas motors, they almost looked like they were on fire going down the river !!

OK check list time for a parked boat for 7 years.

After 7 years in storage, I would be looking at replacing all the fuel lines inside the motor, grease everything that can be greased. Don't forget the trailer, winch strap, tires, wheel bearings, trailer lights, lube the coupler. Electrical connections from motor, battery etc. Might also clean...

    At my wits end

Another example of why you should test run and or a sea trial before purchase. Only bringing this up for others looking for a bargain boat, remember the old saying..." The most expensive boat you will ever own is the one you get for free" ....!!!

Many years back a worked with a fellow that had one of the early versions, had numerous issues with it, the dealer called Johnson for warranty claim review, he showed me the letter from Johnson, they recomended the dealer bypass the vro system and run the motor on 50-1 premix from then on...

    Aluminum gas tank question

Pics wont tell the story, an actual sample of the wood is needed. Transom and stringer wood sample, or if they are really bad, a simple pocket knife stab will tell the story. If you can push the point of a pocket knife into the wood....they are rotted.

    Aluminum gas tank question

Your aluminum tank has corroded, probably some pinholes from the corrosion. Aluminum oxidises naturally but very slow !! Something has sped up the corrosion on your tank. Could be caused by a variety of things such as.....excess moisture wherevthe aluminum never was allowed to dry out...

In my towing experiences ( 60yrs) when your towing at maximum capacity and that capacity is high, the tow has never been overly pleasant. When the trailer is heavier than the tow vehicle, that extra weight can and will drive the tow vehicle some...

2011 Mercury four stroke 8HP upgrade?

With only 8 hp, you wont gain anything noticible. One or so added hp will be lucky to add 1 mph. Your in a situation where your only real choice is to get a bigger motor !! If weight is an issue then go back to a two stroke motor.

2003 70 HP Johnson / Suzuki running rich

You have some testing to do....how old are the fuel hoses? What is the compression on each cylinder ? When was the last time the carbs were rebuilt ? How good is the fuel ? How much of a gap will each plug wire jump ? Need info before we can guess !!

    Low power question

When you replace the fuel lines, also replace the short sections of fuel line inside the motor. When these hoses degrade small pieces flake off and cause blockages. You entire fuel system needs to be flushed and cleaned thoroughly. Probably will need carbs removed and cleaned as well. Once...
