Can lower OPEN value of overheating sensor, sound false alarm?

Not sure what to say. Those temps don't make any sense to me.....

Fuel Tank Shape - Lesson Learned

You could cover the tank bottom with saran wrap, and substitute polyester putty for the modelling clay, to permanently fill in the gap. Make sure the hull is sanded smooth and wiped with acetone, before applying the polyester putty. The saran wrap will keep the putty from sticking to the fuel...

    impeller in need

Mercury used only a few waterpumps on all of their models. They are widely available. Any marine stores near you? They may have what you need. On line is easy as well. SeaRay used Merc OBs (painted white) on some of their boats. Not sure what kinds of parts they stock.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Judging by the position of those impeller vanes, it was not turning with the driveshaft. You are installing the stainless steel key, to drive the impeller, right? Non PTT models have a locking rod that locks the engine down in all but forward. The shift guide in in the gearcase, just in...

    System Check troubles and Tach.

To add to what Dingbat said, which I thought confusing. If the gauge doesn't work, and you have voltage on pin 1 and ground on pin 2, the voltage supply is good, therefore the gauge is bad. Also, I think the tan/yellow wire will be open when oil is being pumped by the VRO pump. Test 9 says to...

Can lower OPEN value of overheating sensor, sound false alarm?

That table is very strange, but just for your motor. The rest of the entries looked about what you would expect. Even if the coolant water was pressurized to 7lbs, like an automobile, the coolant water would still boil, before the sensor closed. I am hoping the table is wrong. You said you...

    Mercontrol

OK, try this. Set throttle handle to neutral, usually 12 o'clock. Look at carb throttle plates. They should be closed, or really close to closed. Your motor will have plastic choke shutters. They should be open, and you should be able to see the brass throttle plates, in each carb. Push...

    system check wiring diagram

Pin 1 is purple wire, should have ign +12VDC Pin 2 is black wire, ground all the time Pin 3 is grey wire, is tach sender Pin 4 is tan/yellow from VRO pump, should not have voltage. Should ground to indicate "no Oil" alarm Pin 5 tan/black is low oil in reservoir. Will ground when low oil...

Can lower OPEN value of overheating sensor, sound false alarm?

Thermostats usually open ay 143*F. Engines will run at 180* F or less. So unless you measured your overheat sensor wrong, it is really out of whack. Closing of the sensor triggers the alarm. So yours doesn't close until 45*F above the boiling or water?

    impeller in need

Those telltales do clog easily, however, because the motor has a telltale stream doesn't mean the impeller is good. When was the last time the impeller was changed? If 3 years or more, it is time to replace it. You will want to replace as a minimum, the impeller, SS wearplate and 2 gaskets...

    Ideas for an old trailer?

I tuned my old trailer into a flatbed, designed to carry 2 snowmobiles. Although I never actually hauled any snowmobiles, I did haul my Yamaha 360 enduro, sofas and tables, chairs and about 1 ton of topsoil. I only hauled the topsoil about 3 miles. It really wasn't up to it.

Wonder if I should go IO again or go OB?

I/Os are obsolete, IMO. I do not see new ones of those at all. All the new motors are 4 cycle OBs. Someone should check the I/O units sold over the past few years. OBs now have 400HP 4 cycle engines, which outclass the 7.4L BBC I/O. A 150HP OB will outperform a 205HP 4.3V6 I/O, and a 115HP...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

You do not need new main jets, unless they are damaged. Make sure you clean the idle jet (idle restrictors is correct term), and the small holes from the idle circuit into the carb throat. Set the float height correctly and use new gaskets, plus new inlet needles and seats. You may or may not...

    Mercontrol

The RPM normally rises in those controllers, as you pass 10 o'clock, CCW. Full throttle is about 7:30-8 O'clock You can adjust the control cables, at the engine. Set the control to neutral, 12 o'clock, cold start lever down. Remove the clamp on the throttle cable at the engine. Adjust the...

Help Please Newbie 1976 Mercury 850 Tilt Trim Wiring. Serial number 4425319.

OK, simple version. PTT is standalone system, not connected in any way to engine. PTT pump/reservoir has it's own battery cables. Make sure these are connected and clean. PTT motor is 3 wire type. The black wire from the motor should be connected to the PTT bracket. PTT bracket should be...

    06 Johnson 90 2 stroke slow activation

Usually those V4 motors have a two wire heat sensor and a 1 wire heat sensor. The 2 wire heat sensor also controls Quickstart. So when cold, the white/black wire is grounded. When overheat the tan/blue wire is grounded. Also, whenever the motor is started, hot or cold, it will go into...

    Starter issue

Check the maxrules web site. They have common wiring diagrams. There is a table that will give the year of your motor, by the model number. Pick out a wiring diagram of your year and HP if possible, but usually one of about the same year and about the same HP will work as well.

Tach is working and not working

A lot of tachometers stay at their last reading, when engine is shut off. They usually zero when key is switched on, but engine is not yet started. You might look up your tach on the OEM website and see what it is supposed to do.

ideas to mount square saddle tanks

Conduit could be PVC pipe, spiral plastic or the split corrugated plastic for electrical wires, whatever you think appropriate. You have that mess of purple wires and that multi wire cable hanging out. Something (fish hook, boat pole, toe...) will catch in it and damage it or you. Heck...
