The link and synch from a '92 probably works for him. Not much changed in that era, as far as link and synch. The throttle arm may be a bit different..

    Stator electrical replacement question

Remember, on your motor, the stator has nothing to do with creating spark. it simply charges the battery, via the rectifier. You must have +12VDC on both the red and adjacent white wires on the switchbox, to have spark. Also the distributor trigger must work. there is an ignition...

I am not sure what those first 2 pictures have to do with the PTT system. Not sure what the first one is. The second one is the starter solenoid and switchbox. The third one is the male plug for the PTT system. That should be attached to your PTT switch and plugged into the pump/reservoir...

Gee, the overheat sensor is a temp switch. It is either open or closed. No other resistance value is normal. When the temp sensor is cold it should be open. When hot it should be closed. It is likely just a piece of wax inside the sensor. When hot the wax expands and pushes the contacts...

How should I fill this hole in deck?

OK, kinda like a drywall repair, but needs strength. OK a dirty idea, assumes a round hatch. Not round would be easier. Cut a piece of plywood 1" larger in diameter than hole. Cut it in half and install hinge along cut. Drill hole near center and install nylon rope. Now cut a couple of...

ideas to mount square saddle tanks

Those tanks have screw flanges, or so it looks. Why not glass a piece of wood to the gunwale and screw the tank into it? Alternatively, there are lots of straps for fuel tanks. Those could be screwed to the glassed on wood and wrapped around the tank. You need a conduit for those hoses...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Parts 28-30 are balance hoses, between the three reed blocks. Replace them is they leak are cracked or are otherwise worn out. The pulse lines for the fuel pump have springs inside them to keep them from collapsing. They are tricky to route to avoid kinks. Maye sure that are clamped on both...

    service manual

Look for a silver welch plug on the block. Those often have serial numbers. The block number located about 1/2 way up the transfer cover side can help pinpoint it as well. The maxrules site will give you a list of serial numbers for your year motor. Does that work?

    Mercury blackmax 150

I would recommend a factory service manual. The timing is critical and is the synch between carbs and ign timing. The service manual will guide you thru it. This motor is not the same as a lawnmower or chainsaw.

When temp switch detects overheat, it shorts the tan/blue wire to ground. So install it cold, unconnected and put an ohmmeter on the tan/blue wire and see if it is grounded to the block. If not check the balance of the tan wire from it for a bare spot that could ground when it is connected.

Mercruiser Throttle Control Repair/Replace 4k Gen II

It never hurts to take the control apart and see what is wrong. If it is a commonly broken part, you may be able to get a replacement. Backup plan is to figure out a fix. Once you take many of those side mount controls out of the panel, they are open, and you need to take it out to replace...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

You know, you do not need to lift the boat off the trailer, to get the trailer out from under it, right? Drop the trailer tongue, and stack cement blocks under the stern corners, pad tops with wood. For my 21 footer, I use two 8inch blocks each for the first 2 courses, then a 12 inch block and...

It is very hard to see from your pictures, however, I had one of those units and am familiar with it. My unit had a single solenoid for up, and down was wired directly into a heavy duty switch. Your 3 amp toggle switch will not last long using it in the down direction. Both your switches...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

Scott in addition to your monster steel support frame I see jackstands under the bow and stern. Why do you need the monster steel support frames? Also, do you want to bet your life that the stern and bow eyes will hold and not tear out? I sure don't! Cement blocks hold up houses, easily...

    Transom replacement instructions

Youtube has lots of videos on the subject. Look for one on "replacing the transom from the outside. The hardest part is digging out the old residue around the perimeterof the transom. When I did mine this year, I did it from the outside. I used 1-1/2oz matt on the inside and between the two...

    service manual

If the leakage comes from the throttle plates in the center of the carbs, the floats are likely not sealing properly, allowing fuel to leak into the throats. The carbs would need to be cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets, floats and inlet needles and seats.

    service manual

Those Il6 motors have a small rubber hose from the lower part of the crankcase to the upper main bearing. They recirculate oil. You might see if that is the leaker. They also have balance hoses on the starboard side of the block. They can leak fuel as well. Try to get a Mercury Service...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

If you want to be safe, Put cement blocks under the transom corners and under the bow. Those stern and bow eyes may hold the weight, or they may fail at any time, as they are not designed for that. if they fail, you will hate it.
