    newbie question 48 78120 A40 19P

Sounds like a standard Mercury prop. A prop for that sterndrive should be easy to find, as they are the most popular. Search for a prop wizard. Input outdrive gear ratio, boat length/weight and RPM and see what prop and pitch it suggests.

    150 4 stroke mercury - Im stymied!!

Clearly you need to make sure your fuel system doesn't have a restriction. Check antisiphon valve. See if A-S valve has its own filter. Some do. You can remove it for test. FTR- I think your mechanic was fibbing.

2000 model year Johnson J175XVSSS gearcase removal

Pull the clevis pin under the carb. Slide the shift linkage to starboard. pin will release from the hole in the top of the shift rod. Remove trim tab and all bolts. gearcase will pull off. To reinstall, the dog leg in the shift rod must point forward. Mate the driveshaft splines with the...

Gee, a trained monkey can change a gearcase. He does need to be trained, though.

    1998 Mariner Outboard

Controls will generally have a 3 or 5 pin plug exiting them. There is a matching cable sold by the manufacturer, which breaks it into ring terminals. all will have Grey for tach signal, black for ground and purple for ign power. If 5 pin, tan is for temp gauge. The other wire may be for...

87 Chris Craft I/O sources of water intrusion?

Bellows were no 1 suspect. Other suspects are Y pipe joint, raw water hose, leaking circulation pump, leaking riser hose or gasket, leaking thermostat housing or large hose from pump to block. Block drains and manifold/riser drains are not leaking?

Evinrude 115 VRO RPM gauge / Warning lights not working?

Does the self check of the warning lights work? Second test: You can ground one of the temp sensors on the cylinder head and see if you get an overheat warning. If not, make sure the overheat wire on the 8pin DIP plug on the gauge is indeed grounded. If so, the wiring is likely good and...

    Drain plug question

You will likely end up using a pipe wrench on the plug. If the wrench tears it up and it still won't come out, you will need to replace the entire fitting. Those are called "Garboard Drains", and will be avail in bronze from most marine stores. They are pretty common and may be found in other...

    How to replace trim switch????

You might look for a parts listing for that control. It might tell you what comes apart. To remove the throttle handle, as was suggested, sometimes an Allen set screw holds it. Om mine, the handle needed to be about 75% of max throttle in reverse (engine off, naturally) to gain access to the...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

If she starts and runs after applying starting fluid, and then dies, the carbs are not supplying fuel. I think you really should get a service manual.

Yes, what you have is what remains of t-nuts and their matching bolts. They usually have them in various sizes, threads and zinc steel and stainless.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

You should get a service manual. The procedure is confusing when first attempted. Post #7: You set the Timing pointer to .464, when the piston is .464 inches before TDC. Then you set the engine to TDC and then set the timing belt to point to the dots on the decal. Then you crank the motor...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

The '464" measurement is to eliminate the uncertainty of timing at TDC. As you noted, the piston is at TDC for many degrees of flywheel rotation. The .464" offset, assures that TDC (and the TDC timing mark) is at the first point the piston stops. You really need to set the timing pointer, as...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

The way you time those is as follows. Find TDC on top cylinder. Measure to top of piston. Add .464 inches to your measurement. Turn flywheel until piston is .464 + your measurement BTDC. Now set timing pointer to the .464" measurement on timing decal. Now set flywheel to TDC and remove top...

Mercury 1150 Stuck in UP position

Tilt lock is not necessary when filling the PTT reservoir. It is self-bleeding. There is a vent screw just above the fill. You might open it a bit.

    Tight Steering

Some sort of marine grease is fine. There should be some zerc fittings on the swivel joint of the outdrive.
