    Another transom.

Polyester resin is just fine for your transom. I have used it on dry PT lumber w/o issue. Stainless screws are fine with PT as well. It is the galvanized ones that corrode. Looks like you still need a piece for the very base of the transom. To lay it up use some mat on the old fiberglass...

Mercury inline primary pick up 4-6, which is better, 4 or 6?

Those motors require the timing belt to be installed when the pointer on the distributor pully points to the dot on the timing decal. Often they are 1/2 tooth off. You can change yours by 1 tooth, and the idle may improve. This adjustment is outlined in the OEM service manual, I did not make...

    Question about engine oil

Gee, Paul, you may use any oil you like in your marine motors. I am concerned that you would recommend oil not specified by the OEM, to folks asking for sage advice. FC-W oil is branded by many at prices only slightly above automotive oil, so the savings are not much. It is obvious that...

charging not working on Merc 850 1974

Look up Bridge rectifier to see the 4 diode configuration. On your Mercury rectifier, you have 3 connections and ground. So you need to check all the rectifiers for continuity one way and open the other way. Some digital meters have a setting for diode checking. Analog meters usually have...

charging not working on Merc 850 1974

Did you check all 4 diodes in the bridge rectifier? They all need to be good for the battery to charge. If one diode is shorted to ground or open, the motor will not charge. You can check for an AC voltage at the rectifier, motor running, from the stator wires to prove the stator is good or bad.

A leaking head gasket can cause overheat. Has that been checked?

Mercury inline primary pick up 4-6, which is better, 4 or 6?

Normally in those engines, idle pickup timing cannot be set to a 1* tolerance. It can be set to 4-6* BTDC, and will show on the timing light, that it is always in that range. Racerone is correct that hesitation is likely caused by a too lean idle mixture. Just so you know, the top carb will...

    Question about engine oil

Did you use a FC-W motor oil or automotive multi-vis? The FC-W oil is made specifically for four cycle outboards, and is supposed to be more robust for the heavier power requirements of the marine engine, versus an auto engine.. The word is that the automotive oil is too wimpy for the high...

    1998 Mercury 150 2 stroke CDI replacement.

Crowleymarine cites the 7778A12 for the '98 Merc 150XL motor. If that is what you have, crowley guarantees fitment. That motor looks to be a generic 150HP motor with carbs. If you have the EFI or other models avail that year, you should doublecheck fitment. CDI electronics as well as other...

    Best way to mount a 20” Evinrude 110 on a 25” transom?

Motors that are set back from the transom can be raised for better performance. I would get a manually adjustable Jackplate and mount it as though you had a 20" transom. Now you can start raising the motor up on the jackplate until you like the efficiency, speed and handling.

    Merc's 150 HP 2 Stroke EFI Motor.-

To be fair, modern automotive spark plugs are rated for 100K miles. I changed the ones in my 2009 Altima a couple of years ago, due to mileage spec. They looked fine. OBs are a different animal, as rust (at least here in the NaCl-H2O) gets their exteriors.

    Best way to mount a 20” Evinrude 110 on a 25” transom?

A Jackplate may work for you. It has to have enough setback for steering and control cables to clear.

    Replacing plywood with solid wood?

Isn't mahogany quite an oily wood? If so, resin will be a challenge to get to stick well. An old friend of mine had a 50's mahogany hull with fiberglass over the mahogany on the bottom. The fiberglass had a bad habit of peeling. Stick with the plywood, would be my recommendation.

    Fuel tank dimensions

Fuel sending units found in marine stores are often universal. You cut the aluminum "rail" to length, and then set the float to the proper height.

Ok Bob, so 2 oz of kerosene in your holding tank is an issue. For you, use some automotive antifreeze.

    Crownline 180br 2010 wiring help

Tachometer signal source is from the motor. The hour meter is simply a clock powered by the ignition power wire. Mercruisers have a single wiring plug on them. The tachometer wire is a particular color, likely grey, in that harness. I would look on the ignition module or coil and see if...

Air don't freeze... RV antifreeze DOES!

Gee, the kerosene only goes into the drains, when you turn off the heat and leave. Not sure how it would catch fire, in the sink trap.
