Help please! 1988 Johnson outboard lack of power and stalls.

The Piston will be at TDC for several Degrees of Crankshaft Rotation. Many engines use a specific Distance from TDC to determine/calibrate the Timing Pointer. It would be easier just examine the Key once the Flywheel Nut is removed, for any shear

Help please! 1988 Johnson outboard lack of power and stalls.

VRO Pumps are not Bad News, they are actually quite Reliable. You rebuilt the Carbs? What parts did you change, and what adjustments did you do inside the Carbs? Also, when you put the Carbs back on the Engine, did you make sure both carbs were fully closed at idle, and that you checked the Sync...

    1969 mercury 800 (80hp) 4cyl Lower Unit Removal

That 'Guide'. is the cam/actuator for the Reverse Lock. The splines on the Shift Shaft components are configured in such a way that they are supposed to fit only one way. I dropped the Gearcases on my inline 6s many times, and I never had any issues of getting them back together properly...

    Heating Johnson

The Impeller should be changed, as it is at least 4 yrs old. If you find pieces of the Impeller missing, there is a chance that some pieces went up the Water Pipe, reducing flow. There should have been instructions with the Temp Gauge as to where to mount the Temp Sensor.

    Oil mix ratio

That may apply to engines with Anti Friction Bearings throughout, but not engines with Friction Bearings(Bushing). Lots of Oil is needed as Racer explained. Less than 16:1 and you are at risk of Metal to Metal contact in the Connecting Rod Bearings, as there will not be enough Oil to maintain...
