    ???------There is one wire going to the choke solenoid.----Use a jumper wire and put 12 volts to the solenoid.-----It should click and pull the choke on.---Also make sure that choke is not in the fully on ( manual lever ) position now.

    I have a 1980 17' project boat rated for 150 HP by US Coast Guard.----Have a 1997 model 150 HP 2 stroke at about 380 LBS,------New 150 HP 4 stroke is 520 LBS.------- Motors not rated at the prop in 1980.------I do not believe the 4 stroke would be correct !

    Many motors were lighter in weight back in the day.-----For example the 1972 model Evinrude 125 HP was listed at 252 LBS.

    I do not believe these rules / capacity plates are well thought out these days.-----They have never been adjusted for propshaft power or the increased weight of modern motors !

    The ends are similar but not exactly the same.----The end that is NOT broken goes on the tower shaft.---Open end would face you.-----Not hard to figure out the installation I think.

    Not all motors are built with the best materials.----An owner can use some tricks / sealers to prevent threads from getting water in them.----That causes corrosion to build up and jams stuff.-----Also there is something called " hydrogen embrittlement on stainless fasteners.

    I do not believe that the " 400 " models were electric shift.----Agreed ---Does exhaust come out the center of the prop ?----Is there a shift and throttle cable on that control ?

    316368 called a SPRING used from 1960 to 1970 on the 40 HP.---And on the 20 / 25 / 35 / 35 HP up to 2005 models.-----.-------Lots of those around.---Dealer might even have it in stock.----Most old time shops would have a few laying around.-----They are proud of that item.----Only on sale at $38...

    No Spark and Key wont turn the engine over.

    As far as I know it keeps the battery charged.-----Many motors ( 9.9 to 50 HP ) have electronic ignition and no battery or voltage regulator.

    Carpenters used to say----" measure 2 X and cut once "------So yes you can measure boat and the motor.-----Then determine the steps to take.

    The 50 HP ( same as the 48 HP ) long shaft with trim and tilt is listed at 218 LBS on these.

    Whenever welding is done on a component there is a risk of distortion.------A welding shop that does these all the time would have a procedure in place.----Or they have likely made mistakes over the years and do not make them anymore.

    ???----How did you determine the weight of the 1988 model 48 HP special ?-----About 186 lbs is listed in the brochure.

    Evinrude/ Johnson 20hp to 30/35 conversion HELP!!

    The electric primer has a red lever on it for manual operation.-----Or the manual primer shoots fuel in when operated.----All very easy if you understand how they work.-----The electric primer was used on electric start motors from 9.9 to 300 HP.----A wonderful item it is.
