Company where I worked we installed Helicoils in aircraft navigation components.----That was 50 years ago.-----Should be simple to install in outboard motors today.----Just my 2 pennies worth.
Model # of your motor ?----The stator under the flywheel charges the battery.----Models without power trim / tilt had a rectifier.------Those with trim / tilt did come with voltage regulator.-----Regulator would be found on top of the block.----It is water cooled.
On the lake in my area you can have 6' to 8 ' waves during a windy day.----Then if the wind dies down the waves keep rolling along and it takes the swell a few hours to die down.
The service bulletin came out in 1994 to deal with the 3 cylinder 56 cube motors.------Many folks have gone overboard and applied this to every outboard !!
