    Fouled Crankcase.-

    Took a 1983 model 9.9 Evinrude apart for inspection last week.-----No carbon in the ring grooves at all.---Little bit of carbon / black stuff on top of piston.----Just put pistons back in this afternoon.

    Face shown in pictures post #21 goes against the bearing.-----I would call that the TOP of the seal.-----Post picture of the bottom crank bearing as installed in this motor.----It can only be installed one way !

    The lower units / water pump on these are essentially the same as the OMC 2 stroke models.----Except for different spline for the crankshaft.-----Carburetor is a variation of the 2 strokes as well.

    Tested lots of these motors using that lever.---Running in a proper test tank.-Controls still on the boat and it was easy to operate throttle with that lever.

    Agree with the above.----Have one of those 57 Javelin motors myself.-----Do a spark test on it.----Good spark should be able to jump a gap of 1/4" or more with ease.----Should be able to hear the --" snap , snap " ---on a test device.

    Pushing the key in would result in the same action as turning the red lever.-----But maybe the prime starter is not working.----Should be easy to check out.-----Do you hear a click when you push in the key?
