Did you remove gearcase with control box lever in forward or neutral ?------What are you expecting to feel on propshaft with the unit in reverse?------What are you expecting to feel on propshaft with lower unit in forward?
I know of a shop that does not replace / repack bearings anymore.-----Has new hubs in stock.-----Quick and easy and a money maker.----Cost of labor makes this the best way to go for the folks who wear a " suit and tie " he says.
What are the compression numbers ?----Those carburetors are are elegantly simple to inspect / repair.-----Could be a broken carbon seal on bottom of crankshaft too.
The CT makes it a 1983 model.----Price can vary from region to region.-----Many shops do not work on older motors.------But someone who knows how to work on these simple motors might pay extra for a good one.
Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on both leads , yes or no ?----Post results of a compression test.------Could be an issue with reed valves ( crankcase compression ) as well.

On many motors the water that comes out the tell -----DOES NOT GO THROUGH ---the block..--A wise owner would monitor how quickly water comes out after start up.----A water pressure gauge also helps monitor pump condition..----So in short a healthy tell tale does not always mean that motor is...
