1985 Evinrude 185, 2 stroke, Engine shut off at idle (help)

I agree low compression results require an overhaul, so before going any further verify with another gauge. I wouldn't expect you to be stalling in neutral with those numbers however. If you want to do a little bit more hunting use an adjustable spark tester and measure how strong your spark is...

    1986 johnson 8hp

So when you say "gas line to the carb" it doesn't actually attach to the carb, it's got a plug in it?

    1986 johnson 8hp

Check this out. I'm having trouble understanding your description but this guy briefly describes having to replace a fuel fitting on the same carb Also I'm struggling to understand why your pumping the primer when it's already hard. As soon as it's firm you should stop pumping

    1985 Yamaha 9.9SK

Ya could put the Yamaha in your truck and probably get her up to 70 or 80 mph I'm not sure you're gonna be able to beat your Evinrude. Not cuz I think one is "better" than the other but because they are entirely different engines and 9.9 hp rating does not translate very easily into lbs of...

    2003 Honda 8 hp won’t start

Was the belt broken? I hope so for your sake. Try a new belt. No compression could also come from a broken can shaft or a warped or cracked head or block. Was the outboard hot when it was submerged?

    MerCruiser 4.3 Clutch/Neutral

I'm posting because I'll get a notification when someone else responds and I'd love to be wrong about this but I believe your throttle does not have the option because your carburetor linkage is not set up to accommodate that task. I don't think you can modify your carb to do so either. Post...

    1986 johnson 8hp

You need to redo it a 4th time. Fuel spilling out at the fitting means you installed it incorrectly. If you want more specific advice take some pictures of how you have it installed, pull the fuel line off take a pic of the the receiving end also check you've got the right size hose, maybe you...

Surging Problem - 2004 Johnson 60 HP, four-stroke, fuel injected

No i didn't watch the video til just now. Wow that is the first time I've seen anything like that. I mean.. it's such a fast rhythmic miss. Disclaimer: this is newer than anything I've worked on and it's fuel injected which I've got no experience with. That being said, i suppose if it was my...

Surging Problem - 2004 Johnson 60 HP, four-stroke, fuel injected

Great post, history, symptoms, and what you've tried. And so far the things you tried were my first guesses as to what the problem was, dirty fuel filter, bad vent line, bad fuel pump, bad fuel, vacumn leak.. you pretty much verified it's none of those things. I would suggest spraying carb...

1994 mercury mercruiser engine not starting

I think you're right to be rebuilding the carb then. Recommend picking up an adjustable tester at some point. If you've got access to a timing light and a dwell meter then id verify timing and dwell were set correctly after your rebuild.

    65hp evinrude no power

I'm going to be lurking this post. Early in my wrenching I had the exact same problem on a V4 johnson. getting spark (7/16") to all cylinders good compression (120s) all cylinders yet cylinder drop test revealed I was running on two. Hope someone can help ya. I would say for the sake of being...

1994 mercury mercruiser engine not starting

If it has good spark on all cylinders then the shift assist switch is not your problem as that switch will interrupt spark. How are you testing spark? "Spark is good from what I can tell" get yourself an adjustable spark tester. One of the more important tools in my diagnostic bag which gives...

    4.3 fuel problem?

Ah good point. It's strange cuz it cold-starts fine when you get to the marina, but you run the boat, sit for 2-3 hours and now you're cold-starting again and suddenly have this issue. What is your starting procedure?

    4.3 fuel problem?

Could be your anti-siphon valve is failing. Normally gas would stay in your fuel line with the engine off but a failed valve would allow gas to run back into the tank. After sitting with the engine off there is no fuel in the fuel lines so it takes a lot of cranking in order to re-prime the lines.
