    Velvo penta does on water

What was your procedure when you tuned the carb? Other thoughts: Inspect your fuel quality. I dump the gas out of my filter canister into a clear glass jar for inspection. Does it look like you've got good gas coming out of your tank? Next run the boat for a minute and read the plugs after you...

Mercruiser 5.0 dies while idling - no fuel from line

Hope this doesn't count as hijacking, but maybe this is the same for OP, if the fuel pump has steel fuel lines how do you proceed? I haven't been able to figure out a fitting I can use to connect my gauge

    Engine redlining after starting

Take the air filter off. Have someone move the throttle control arm while you're looking at the carburetor and you should see where the throttle linkages is moving and needs to be linked to the throttle plate in the carb. When it is linked up and the throttle control arm is in the neutral...

No Power: Four Winns Horizon 200

Check your fuses at the engine. If they're good crawl under the dash with your multimeter and test for power. If no power than I suspect battery switch connections

No Power: Four Winns Horizon 200

Sounds like a loose connection. Either at the battery or at the battery switch. The fact that your bilge pump, horn, depth finder did not work, and they normally work with key in the off position tells me the problem is probably upstream of the keyswitch in the circuit which only leaves battery...

Mercruiser 5.0 dies while idling - no fuel from line

How long did you crank for with the hotwire before deciding to vent through the filler cap?

    johnson 25hp compression

Sounds like you're running on one cylinder. You've got spark but is it strong and consistent spark (measure with an adjustable tester, how far does spark jump). If you're running on one (as confirmed by your cylinder drop test) I would methodically work through the ignition circuit to find out...

1999 115HP motor very tough starting, if at all

The manual I use says for hard-starting hot: bad fuel (water), spark plugs (did you verify gap on your new plugs), ignition primary (when problem occurs check spark with an adjustable spark tester.. are you jumping 7/16" on each cylinder), and coil (a weak coil may "break down" as it becomes...

Outboard won't spin unless spark plugs removed.

I suspect loose connection. Check starter selenoid and starter wires. Disconnect the battery to avoid shock, remove and clean wires with fine sandpaper or Emery cloth. Spray contact cleaner and reinstall. It takes nothing for your starter to spin the flywheel with the plugs out.. the fact that...

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

Definitely sounds like flooding and i think your idle mix is set too rich. When you're flooded and can't restart the engine, have someone hold the throttle plate open while you crank and you should be able to start it up like that so you don't hafta wait 20 minutes.

    Old v4 generations

I love the late 70s V4s I used to buy em off Craigslist left and right in not running condition, get em for less than a hundred, get em running good then sell em for five or six hundred. That's the engine I learned on. Most common things I saw on the engines I bought were bad ignition systems...

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

Bogging and needing starting fluid sounds like you're running rich. I'm not a fan of setting air mix by "x" amount of turns. I use an accurate tachometer (my timing light) and slowly turn idle mix screw clockwise until rpms begin to drop due to lean condition, then turn screw counterclockwise...

2018 Lexington 523 with Suzuki DF 115 that keeps stalling

I think you're on the right track about a vent issue. Try cracking open your fuel filler cap and running the boat and seeing if the stalling problem goes away. If so, then you've confirmed your diagnoses

Yamaha 115 4 stroke, starting problem

Vacumn leaks are pretty easy to test for. Plenty of videos on YouTube that can prolly give you a better explanation than I could as I'm not familiar with fuel injection systems but get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around the intake manifold and around hose connections etc while the engine...

    Skinny water boat.

A flat bottomed fiberglass skiff might be a good fit for you. I had one called a stumpknocker that I really loved. It was only 14' and had 2 livewells and did everything I needed it to, and it was much steadier than the Jon boat I had before that

Yamaha 115 4 stroke, starting problem

So this problem occured right after changing tanks? A new fuel pump temporarily fixed the problem, immediately came back after switching tanks and the problem persisted when you switched back.. I'm thinking you had bad fuel or some sort of debris in the gas tank. I'd remove the fuel lines and...

Mercruiser 3.0 rough idle at start and stumbles momentarily during acceleration

I just replaced a Rochester carb on my omc 2.3 l. There weren't a lot of companies carrying that carb so I took a risk and ordered from flying fish carburetors (even though I read a couple negative reviews on this forum). But my experience was great, the carb arrived a week later and seems to be...
