    If the recoil gear was smaller it would be easier to pull over.----Flywheel would turn slower and may not generate spark.----Groove on bottom of that gear must not be lubricated.

    These little Mercury motors are actually very nice runners.-----Need a little more patience to work on them.

    Those primer valve are easy to find used.----They were installed on many motors from 1980 to 2005.----From 9.9 to 300 HP motors !!

    The corrosion would indicate salt water use.----Do a compression test on it.----Post the values here.-----If that test is good put a new water pump impeller in before launching the boat.

    Install an ELECTRIC PRIMER valve off a 1980 to 2005 Johnson / Evinrude on this Mercury.----Hard starting is then not in your vocabulary anymore.

    I twist the impeller as it is pushed down.----Making sure that keyway then lines up.-----Never an issue.----Have done more that 1 of these.

    Your motor may not have an overheat warning horn.-----Check fuel hose from motor to the fuel tank and pickup tube inside the tank.

    Serial # of your motor?-----You start the trouble shooting with a compression test.----Regardless of what you think about your motor.----Post the numbers here.----The fuel pump is driven by crankcase PRESSURE pulses.

    So 26,000 post here.-----Then you MUST check the parts book for this 1991 model MERCURY motor and all the 3 / 4 cylinder looper models!----- From 70 to 125 HP.----And you can't find a sheared key with a timing light either.----Rebuilding a 1965 model 65 HP MERCURY for a dealer this winter...
