    I think they all have that hole.----Any water in the gear oil.----Has to be there to drain water from a cavity.

    Not many pontoon boats in my area.----But pontoons are generally slower through the water and may not develop as much water pressure.----Hence the different spring.-----Your local Mercury dealer will likely help you on this.

    I believe that site has the exact wiring diagram for your motor.----But do a complete evaluation on this motor BEFORE spending beer tokens on it.-----And --"great compression " -- means nothing to me.----Post the actual / accurate values.

    Normally open to run.----And that switch on your motor had 2 wires I think.

    Install a factory solenoid.-----Starter must spin the flywheel fast to generate the spark.-----The loose foam ( mice ? ) bits must be dealt with.

    The crankshaft spline is different.----Exhaust housing gasket is different.------So in short , there is no way that your idea will work.

    The pump is driven by the driveshaft.-----And it will turn at engine RPM.-----Propshaft RPM will be lower with some bottom ends.
