Boat turns over but will not start

Not sure why people think that ethanol makes gas bad. It doesn't. ANY gas that sits oxidizes and loses the most volatile components through evaporation. Pretty sure there were plenty of cars and boats that didn't start prior to the 90's.

    Mercruiser 260 Backfire Through Exhaust

He already pressurized them, that's how he knows it's leaking. I think he'd need to remove the heads, install block off plates over the water passages/top of the block, and pressure test just the block.

    In dash GPS speedo?

My pitot got ripped out when the boat swamped. Was going to replace it until I realized that gps was more accurate and I could fill my hull penetrations from the pitot.

    1985 3.7L 470 170hp mercruiser

So much more to look out for in a neglected 470. But first is the structure. You need to pull up the floor, check the stringers, and drill some holes in the transom to check for rot before you sink any more money into this thing ...

    Size of outboard

Talk about a showoff, @Scott06. You have like, 230hp! I agree though, 70 hp IS pretty ostentatious. /s Also, the difference in price between a 20 yo 40hp and a 20 yo 70hp is less than the gas money needed to launch it. Still waiting for the "I have too much power, and can easily get on plane...

Carburetor Compatibility Merc 2bbl 3.0 for my 3.7

Fair, but just like putting any non-stock carb on an engine, it would work fine if tuned correctly. But either way putting one on a poorly running engine in hopes of it running better isn't the best strategy...
