    Trim tabs.??

Gee, I think it depends on the trim of the boat. My 19' SeaRay I/O was butt heavy, as most I/O boats are. Power adjustable Trim tabs helped a lot, as you could put the tabs down, and back off the throttle, in rough seas. My 21 foot dual console has O/B power. It is nose heavy. I do not...

    1996 Johnson 150 no spark

That motor likely feeds +12VDC to the powerpack when the starter is cranking. After the ign key is set to run, the ign power is all from the stator. You might start by testing for +12VDC at the power pack when cranking, as she may not start without this auxiliary power.

1977 Mercury 1500 inline 6 motor with distributor.

That motor will have 2 zerk fittings on the distributor rotation linkage. Have they been lubed? If the distributor won't rotate (make sure it isn't against the stop), likely something solid got into the rotation sleeve. I have never seen this, so it is a guess, likely a SWAG.

1977 Mercury 1500 inline 6 motor with distributor.

Throttle cable must push the throttle closed. Adjust the barrel nut until it does, with a little preload. if she still runs too fast at idle, you can back off the "idle stop" set screw. It is located above the distributor. You will then again need to adjust the throttle cable to push the...

    Boat prop issue

Show us a picture of the transom, especially where the antiventilation plate falls in relation to the bottom of the hull. What is the height of the transom? I would expect a 20" transom.

    Permatex Aviation Gasket Former.-

OK, on my '98 cylinder heads there are water passages and Orings. Silicone caulk around the water passages, Grease on O rings.

    Permatex Aviation Gasket Former.-

Johnson/Evinrude have their own recommendations as to what to use on crankcase edges. It varies by year. On my '98 V6 they specify OMC Locquic primer followed by OMC Gel-Seal II Om my 1959 Fat Fifty, OMC specified permetex #1 hard setting gasket compound. What does your engine specify?

    Fouled Crankcase.-

Gee, several of those Lucas synthetic 2 cycle oil products are not TCW-III rated. They advertise that "It is formulated to meet or exceed ISO EGD, JASO FD and API TC.". Anyone know those certifications?

    Struggle Bus

What is the float bowl made of? If plastic, check it with a straight edge for warpage.

    Struggle Bus

As in the carbs are entirely plastic. They exist on the 1996+ V4 and V6 models. Your carbs are different than the V4/6 carbs. Hopefully they are aluminum.

    Struggle Bus

Idle mixture settings need to be done on a warm motor, under load in the water. They are adjusted for each carb individually. Initial setting is just to get her started and warmed up. Also, If you have plastic carbs, the bowls can warp.

    Restoring salt pitted stainless steel

Stainless can get very small rust spots which are visible if you look close, but it doesn't corrode. At least any decent SS will not corrode. Chrome plated hardware is fine for freshwater, but pits and peels near salt water. Aluminum will get white powder (alum oxide) on it and some pitting...

    Antifouling outdrive

Spraying antifouling paint on an outdrive is not sufficient. You will have a barnacle-fest at the end of the season. Clean it, service it and install it. Now prep it for paint. Brush aluminum primer on it, making sure to cover all the bare spots. 2 coats if necessary. Now brush Trilux, 2...

    Saltwater eating my trailers...

Galvanized trailers are real good at resisting corrosion, if you flush them. Flush them interior and outside. Good ones will have drain holes. Buy some "cold galvanizing spray" and use it on all exterior rust spots or potential rust spots. I pulled the rear support off my 1989 trailer to see...

Searay 180 Alpha one fuel pick up fitting replacement

My '88 SeaRay had a bit of an unusual fitting there. The pickup had a tube that goes into the fuel tank, which is standard, but under the tube (which unscrewed), was a filter. The antisiphon valve was integral to the pickup tube. Most of the standard fuel pickups do not have the filter, and...

    Prop ventilation?

Measure the center of the transom down to the center of the hull. Most motors have multiple mounting holes. Advise us on which ones you are using.

Help, please. Do I have a chance in finding this part?

They are also about the most available part there is, since they need replacement all the time. Often you can find points that will fit from other motors. For example, Eska outboard motors often use lawnmower points, since the powerheads are often manufactured by a lawn mower maker. Good luck..
