    You can get a prop with a fixed hub, rehubbed by a prop shop. If the prop is newer, it could have a modular hub. You can buy a new hub for that kind of prop and install it yourself.

    Those rotary steering systems will operate backwards, if the cable is installed in the wrong hole. Your cable looks to be in the bottom hole. Try unscrewing it and install it in the top hole.

    Won't go over 4,000 RPM

    Was the boat going 11 MPH at 4000RPM? If so. you spun your prop, or chewed the daylights out of it. I doubt changing the water separator will fix it.

    Sure, try paddling a boat larger than 16 foot. With any kind of wind or current, it won't work. A boat pole that you can push off the bottom is more effective.

    OK, that seems pretty clear. I was quoting ADI specs from my 90s V6. What fuel did it originally call for? Regular 86/87 octane or something else.

    Warped float bowls are easy to spot with a straight edge ruler. They also contain the main fuel jet, so clean it while the bowls are off. New bowls are available in a few places for different prices. Of course, you can rebuild the carbs pretty easy while inspecting the bowls.

    I deo not think Merc used a 30* spark advance since the 60's, on their points models. My '73 850 max spark advance was 23*BTDC and my '77 1500 was 21* BTDC. I always ran the 850 at 21* since the quality of the fuel was worse in the 80s than the 70s, at least I think is was worse.

    No Fire To Plugs

    Yellow wires are for the charging system. Perhaps the voltage regulator is mis-wired or bad, causing a short to ground. The diodes in the VR can short to ground.

    The gearcases will interchange. What is wrong with the midsection? Not sure if the midsections will interchange, but they might. Ignition systems are not swappable.

    Did you check timing? That is a 4 ignition coil motor right? The idle pickup timing should be 0-9*ATDC. Max spark advance s/b 21* BTDC. You might clean the main jet and the idle passages. "junk in the bottom of the carbs " could easily clog those. At 1800 RPM, the idle mixture adjustments...

    It sounds like you have +12VDC on the ground wire of the stereo, when the ign key is turned on. Perhaps there is a relay on the stereo ground circuit, that is energized when the key is on?
