1986 Evinrude 225 v6 only 5 volts at harness plug

I am not to certain I understand precisely ... what you found but if you found the problem great. before you spend $$$ did you try polishing all the surfaces of male/female contacts of the connector. It may be all it needs thanks for the feedback

1986 Evinrude 225 v6 only 5 volts at harness plug

reading 5 volts along a wire.... indicates that the source voltage (12v) has dropped in proportion to the resistive load ..... as in Ohms law. wherever your read 5 volts "across" something means the 12v is being shared along a resistive path between a solid 12 v at a source down...

1986 Evinrude 225 v6 only 5 volts at harness plug

see diagram of a " similar" 1985 engine" it may help track down problem areas as you track down the missing 12 volts

1986 Evinrude 225 v6 only 5 volts at harness plug

what exactly is it you do to JUMP THE POWER AROUND THE PLUG ?? are you " bridging wire to wire " ??? if so the contacts need to be cleaned ...did you ? when we put in gear it still cranks...? are you saying the starter keeps spinning or trying to spin the engine while in forward gear...

1986 Evinrude 225 v6 only 5 volts at harness plug

I can only get 5 volts on the engine side of the plug when in plug it in. the choke, horn alarm work but won't crank with key. Fuse is good but NO wires get 12 volts the the engine side of plug when hooked up. Q1- do you have 12v on the selenoid main post ? you should.... if not clean all...

1994 Johnson 175 turns over with key switch off?

going by pictures available of the wiring diagrams (around same years) but if no ECM that makes it simpler :) update: possibly a C.D. unit not an ECM as you indicated the selenoid control wire splits to the selenoid and... the CD unit getting the proper diagrams is tricky :-(...

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

agree with #17.... pushing the obstruction (crud) back into the idle chamber with a wire would only cause it to plug up the crab....... downriver :-(

salt water motor ?? internal passages could be blocked with deposits and according to a recent utube I was looking at... you may need a flush ....like is done of radiators. try to localize the hot zone with an Infra red reader (cheap tool 25-30$) that may clue you where to focus...

1994 Johnson 175 turns over with key switch off?

disconnect the control wires on the selenoid if it cures the problem then the selenoid in OK but is being energized look downstream. first try to tap the key assembly to see if it releases the selenoid ... having reconnected the wires of course. if it clears the...

    79 35hp evinrude wet plugs

in the diagram the rectifier does not draw current via the fuse so it is unlikely it would blow the fuse. the rectifiers feeds +12v to the bat. via the fat post (red) on the selenoid.

    4 HP Evinrude Coils

this is what we all find under old motors like yours although 1980's is not that old for cracking no offense but 2 bad coils in one motor at the same time is somewhat bad luck .... make certain you use the proper scale to read low ohm values across the primaries then a higher scale...
