IIRC, the 3-cylinder used a modified 6-cylinder prestolite cap with only 3 of the terminals. I believe the rotor is just glued to the shaft.
The pic looks like someone swapped in a 6-cylinder cap.
call Franz, or spend a day at your local NAPA going thru all the parts on the shelf, and their...
the 1998 should be identical to the 1999 as far as crank/rods/block go.
the automotive dampers are generally smaller because the motor doesnt spend the amount of time at WOT in a truck that it does in a boat.
With that stated, use the 1999 short block as is. get a new marine water pump, new...
look in the sig as I rebuilt my back to back seats. you would be better off just buying them

first, welcome aboard
pics would help us see the damage
anything man-made can be re-made or repaired.
the toon logs are the frame that the deck sits on. specifically, what did you bend? again, pics would help.
I have a percolator style coffee pot that we use when camping. its dual voltage, 12 volt and 125. its going to be over 50 soon.
they just dont make things to be repaired or two last.
The only thing I found to stick to rubbermade plastic totes was painters tape and use a sharpie. not sure what kind of adhesive they use, however that is how I label the totes in the garage
however that defeats the purpose of the label.
they do not last any longer. I have found that they last only a year or two and then they stop pumping water. Our Cuisinart is still going where there is now 3 Keurigs that are dead and I need to take a look or toss them.
only one carb out of 200+ have I ever deemed beyond rebuildable. there was too much corrosion. the issue most people make on rebuilding a carb is not putting the effort in on cleaning the gunk from the passages.
I look at the 3 dead Keurig's that plugged up that I have yet to run vinegar thru them as I pours half a pot of coffee from my cuisinart auto-grind into my travel mug every morning .......
the amazon chinese motor is listed at 6 volts. I personally would not trust amazon parts
did you clean all the battery connections, including the pad mounting the starter to the block?
the pre 90 motor is a Mark IV block with 2-piece RMS
the 1996 and later motor is a Gen VI motor with a 2-piece RMS
you should have gotten a new damper with the gen VI motor.
if you are looking for a used carb, go to sites like AOMCI.org or ebay.
if you are looking for a new carb, look at any of the parts breakdown mercury selling sites and buy one.
JB weld wont do a thing but make the guy that has to weld it pissed because he has to clean the JB weld off. JB weld has only a few hundred PSI strength. the aluminum is roughtly 26000 psi for A356 cast aluminum
remove the motor
remove the clamp assembly from the motor
take it to a competent...
