    Correct---And most parts are the same in those years.----You will need a new water pump impeller.----Same part from 1974 to 2005 on them.

    I cannot get a hold of your motor ( Johnson V-6 ? )-----It is easy to trouble shoot these motors in your driveway.----You need to post compression numbers first.----Then check for spark on all leads.

    Remove lower unit and see if it can be shifted using a pair of pliers on the lower shift rod.

    Compression in a cylinder ( cold ) is around 100 / 120 PSI.---Pressure is much higher with motor running.------So why would water at 45 PSI blow the head gasket ??

    That dial is the idle mixture screw.-----Once set it should not need adjustment very often.-----I think the fitting on the hose is the wrong one.-----Turn the handle so it hits the neutral stop.----Install a new water pump impeller now.

    That mixing unit and oil tank should have been thrown out years ago !!-----Do a compression test, post the numbers here.-----Install a new water pump impeller now.

    Careful observation on your motor would show that it only goes on in one way !

    Your motor does NOT use a copper water tube.----You must install that seal.---And that seal is shown as part of the factory kit !

    You are looking at the " cool side " of the motor.------I suspect scoring / wear to be worse on other side.-----Time to take the cylinder head off this motor.------Post pictures of cylinder walls.

    Agreed with the above.-----I for one think that these electric shifts are wonderful , simple .----But yes inspect the wiring.----Those units require a gear oil ( type-C ) specified for use in electric shift.

    Remove lower unit.----Lay it on a workbench.----Use a strong flashlight.----See if you can find the hole in the shifter.----Gently move the shift rod.-----If you get it to line up , run and buy a lottery ticket.

    Rebuilt a 74 model this winter.-----Had the new pistons / rings on hand.-----That is LOW----Needs 120 PSI or so.----IT is so easy to inspect pistons and rings.-----Remove the 2 bypass covers on the side of the block.----Look at pistons.----Will cost you $8 on gaskets.----It is a mistake to put...

    There is an oil recirculation line on this motor.-----But replace the fuel pump diaphragm and test again.
