    If paint is smooth then its just looks your dealing with. Mine wasn't smooth and I wanted to make it look good also, so paid to have it removed and I painted it with white epoxy

    Agree with VP Mech that its not the pickup tube, and don't think it was lack of fuel that killed the motor. It was either electrical or because of the water Is the boat actually on plane at that rpm or just plowing water? Is this a salt water boat or fresh? Were the exhaust manifolds...

    First pull the connector apart, clean and spread the males pins and shrink the female side slightly. If that doesn't fix it, the search Mercruiser 10 pin pigtail. Merc and VP are the same This is from Hardin site, but look around for cheaper if going that route...

    First and foremost, the thing that makes a good boat is the motor. If the motor doesn't run it doesn't matter what it looks like The Chap is better made then the Monterey and does have higher resale. I have a Rinker which is in the similar range as the Monterey, they are entry level boats...

    This is where things don't add up with WOT. Using the same prop pitch but a different ratio drives. The higher ratio drive will take off quicker but will over rev. The lower ratio drive will take off slower but will not over rev They cannot equal the same WOT RPM

    Nothing shows up. Your getting spark on all cylinders at the plugs and its white or blue. Compression is good (130 or more) Motor is turning over fast enough (at least 300 rpm) Starting fluid does not help with fuel turned off

    Not arguing with anyone that dwell is the best way, its not needed to get it to start. Doesn't need to be exact to get the motor to run. Something is missing

    If the carb is flooding then it will have a hard time starting. But normally there is at least a backfire. Stick a white or light color rag in the throat of the carb and then pump the throttle. Pull the rag back out and smell it, see if it smells like gas. It also should not discolor the rag...
