    Sorry----The 85 HP in 69 /70 had a totally different ignition system and shift system was different as well.-----But I am sure you can recognize that.

    There is a video on you tube.----sapele a padouk ----Laminated with West System.----Guy pounds these blocks with a hammer.---Then soaks in water and pounds again.-----The wood broke but not the epoxy joint.

    Looks like a bearing let go inside.-----Likely the wristpin bearing.-----Motor might have had a rattle.----Some of us can hear this rattle.----Some folks can only hear if motor is running.----And if a motor runs , then everything is OK I think.

    Sure 12 volts is used for the starter motor.-----Most outboards today use an ignition system run by a magneto.----For example Johnson / Evinrude put an electronic magneto on the 1971 model 50 HP.----Battery was used to crank it over.-----And 12 volts was not used to make spark for plugs.

    Pieces of piston stopped it from turning I guess.-----Time to take it apart.-----Determine the cause or it will blow up again.-----That is caused by detonation / running lean.-----Perhaps shop for another motor !!
