    Spark plugs change with fuel burn characteristics.----Fuel is now different than what I remember.----Does not smell the same as it did in 1968

    I have more than one of these V-4 blocks kicking around.-----Yes the fuel manifold and hoses need some re-arranging.-----And the electric primer is a VALVE it is not a pump.-------Good luck with it.

    Step # 1 is to pull the flywheel.------The magneto needs attention.-----Both coils are likely cracked.-----Recoil needs repair.------Choke should work both ways.----Solenoid , battery and a switch would do the trick.

    Typical damage !!----I have seen that before.------You need to replace the flywheel.-----Was not available new few years ago.-----Appears to be available now for $400 US or so.----At least it is now listed on ----evinrudeparts.ca ----at $500 in Canadian funds.-----Or search on E-BAY.

    The modern ignition systems are very capable / very reliable.-----After all they develop up to 40,000 volts.----Plug gap does not bother the coils in any way.

    A new manifold will not be different from what you have !!!!!------I am not sure what you are doing / attempting here.----You do not need a new manifold.------Why make it difficult !!!

    Those newer flywheels are cast iron.-----Every time the pinion hits them a wee bit of damage is done.-----They never had this issue with older flywheels that had a steel ring gear on them.----Any pictures of the damage in the 3 areas where motor typically stops ?

    Smooth surging is usually a leak in fuel lines.-----fuel pump pulling air instead of fuel------Use a 1 gallon paint can or similar with the hose stuck in for test running.

    Something called ------idle timing------It is the point where throttle plates open.-----About 50 years ago I checked tuned a Johnson 28 HP 1963 model.-----Had it running perfect in shop tank.------Then on the weekend I visited the local launch ramp.-----Saw this same motor with hood...

    Perhaps it is just as simple as throttle plates opening too early.-----That stops most 2 strokes the way yours is acting.

    Post #1 says that you feel it is fuel starved and running rich.----Can you elaborate on that theory.----Explain why you think this is so.
