    Osco is a production casting house used by both Mercruiser and Volvo in the past. HGE is a will-fit aftermarket company. if these are your only two choices. the Osco will most likely be a better casting.

    a cheap aftermarket distributor cap with bad terminals could cause cylinders 3&4 to loose spark after a while so could not having the plug wires seated all the way on the plug or cap towers

    ???? that is the excite wire and probably a charge light indicator on the dash. most 3 wire alternators will work. your current alternator is a 42 amp. I personally would just take it to the local starter/alternator shop and pay the $50 to put in new diode pack, regulator, etc.
