5.7 Gsi not starting, no fuel pump startup?

Howdy and :welcome: Your looking in the right area and so far as the three on the 4.3 and less on the 5,7 I don't see but no worries. You need a good manual and the OEM is the way to go. The relays are turned on by the ECM by the ECM applying a ground to the relay, same happens to the...

    95-98 5.7l types

Agree with your mechanic, if it will not stay in the water, there is no need for the Mercathode So far as the fill of the tank, I leave mine where ever it is when winterized. In most cases I leave it with only a 1/4 tank. Never had boat gas go bad over the winter and I don't use stabilizer...

Yes simple, get a 2x4 to put between the cavitation plate and the prop. Need a 1 7/16 inch socket and just remove the nut, then the rear prop. The next nut is 2 3/4, kind of big. There is a socket made by Merc and others and quite pricey. So you can use a large adjustable wrench, monkey...

HELP: how do I take off steering/throttle/shifting cables from 40hp mariner outboard

Kind of thought this would be easy for the outboard guys, but guess they missed it. I'll take a stab at it, and maybe they will come in to fill in what I leave out or say incorrectly. It appears to me to you just disconnect the cable from the link on the right, then loosen the nut on the left...

looking for help with wire colors and location 1978 merc 260

Here is the basic wiring book for the older model, you can use the first 3.0 for yours if the color wires are the same. http://www.boatfix.com/merc/servmanl/13/13e4r2.pdf If your motor does not use the same color wires then yours is old enough to use the previous wiring method. In this case...

The neutral switch gets put inline with the yellow start wire. In the wiring drawing there is a tie spot. In you current setup you can start the motor in gear or out. The neutral safety switch goes inline so it will only start when the switch is closed in neutral. Note, when in neutral there...

need help with diagnosing bilge pump

This is the typical bilge pump wiring, so look for the inline fuse feeding the pump. Wire might come off the Bat switch or Bat (Bat switch in pic should be on other side or red dot). Need a meter to check power.

    Where do these wires go?

The one looks Tan and the color chart shows it to be Temp switch to warning horn or gauge. The other looks like Brown/wht so that should be trim gauge. If I see the colors right

Removal of MEFI 4 system from 6.2L V8

Not VP guy but that plug appears different then the Merc 10 pin plug (VP left, Merc right). I'm sure you could buy the engine harness from VP dealer which would be the first thought. Looked up a GL model (thinking this is a carb motor) and found the engine harness for $969. Or get a Merc...

Go figure the manual tells ya how to remove the amp meter and install the volt meter. So what they are saying is the White wire is used to power the meter (same as purple on new design). Tape the Red/White back, and connect the Red to the Red/White. They do bring up a great point which I...

    72 Thunderbird Formula w/twin 165hp Mercs

Yes it will work Note, White wire is used like Purple in todays wiring. New wiring does not use amp meters so they don't have to run heavy gage wires to/from the helm. Just cut the Red/Wht loose and attach to starter (orange) You could either run Red to switch (Orange) and remove and cap...

Sorry but been out all day. The purple wire previously mentioned previously was thinking that you would be using a Mercruiser hiring harness, or using the color code Merc uses. Here is Merc color chart Purple is a switch color from the key. The pic about the two wires on the oil pressure...

    Burning up bravo 3 impellers

Well cannot say that anymore, but took my spare B3 and put the below style muffs on them For the test I used a 3/4 hose from a 4 foot frost proof hydrant on full. Water pressure around 85 psi. Had a garden hose ball valve (cheap ones) on the end and the valve was attached to the muffs. The...
