    You could run with a timing light to observe spark as you increase throttle.-------I do know that a 20 PSI difference in a modern motor indicates a problem !!-------But in the big picture a head gasket is cheap.----Take the head off and have a look in there.

    Looks correct to me -----A long shaft motor on a 20" transom is what I see.

    The " beep " on the turn of the key was a feature on newer control boxes.-----Find the tan coloured wire at the cylinder head.-----Slide rubber boot to expose knife connecter.----Turn key to on.-----Touch wire connecter to ground.----The horn should sound.

    There should be a warning horn in the control box.---Best to test it now.-------If you do not know condition or age of water pump impeller you should install a new one.

    As stated the sealer is supposed to squeeze out !!-----I assemble these with no primer.----Meticulous preparation.----Cleaning with laquer thinner.----Never use primer.----No problems either.

    Compression test first !!----Post the numbers.----Then look for strong spark on each lead.----These motor sound nice running on 3 of 6 cylinders.

    Starter Solenoid?

    On a proper factory solenoid one wee terminal gets 12 volts from ignition switch.----The other wee terminal goes to ground.----The solenoid connects the 2 big terminal together.----Elegantly simple !!

    Break in is usually done a 25:1----Tell tale water stays cool !----Tell tale water does NOT circulate through the block either.
