    They are quite simple.------Very few complaints like on other motors with shift cables not adjusted properly.

    The 48 SPL is a very good motor.----One issue is the less than robust lower unit on them.-----Use the best gear oil in it and make sure seals keep the water out of it.

    Best to have a look inside the throttle / shift control box.----From where I sit there appears to be an issue with the interlock mechanism.

    Each carburetor feeds one cylinder.-----Much the same as most outboard motors !-----A blocked carburetor means LESS oil going into 1 cylinder and that is not good.

    Post pictures of the pages in your parts book.----I doubt there is a pump in the junction box.-----Most fuel pumps on those operate with crankcase compression pulses.-----You should be able to adapt many different pumps from Johnson / Mercury / Suzuki / Yamaha to that motor.

    Replace the wee tube.--Factory material is best.-----Make sure it does not interfere with the float.----Test run.

    That thrust hub may be splined.----When turned around that becomes the tool to remove the bearing carrier.-----Time to cut the propshaft or thrust washer to get this apart !!!

    Winner.-----Put in gear.-----Turn flywheel 10 turns.----Count turns of propeller.----Calculate gear ratio.----Should be .414------12 teeth on pinion and 29 on forward gear.

    Those plugs had been in there for a while.-----If you set the new ones at 0.035" it will be a happy motor.
