What´s the best replacement for AQ271C (or 570) 5.7 GM engine, ideally stroker?

first, please understand torque is what makes the boat go. HP is just a function of torque and RPM lets break down the 271C its a generic 5.7 short block with small chamber (64cc) police package / performance crate motor heads and a 715CFM vacuum secondary 4-barrel carb hence the 271-275hp...

980 hours on engines - compression test

yes, 80 grit on the intake, 200 grit in the combustion chamber and as smooth as possible in the exhausts. be careful shipfitters disease does not kick in.... otherwise while the engines are out you may go to stroker cranks, build a pair of 496's

2001 mercruiser 305 alpha drive to couple year older 350 engine

BTW, with the motor that old, it probably has 76cc smog heads on it, so its power at most would be about 210hp. which is less than the 5.0 you pulled out of the boat.

2001 mercruiser 305 alpha drive to couple year older 350 engine

yes, the balance on the flywheel is more critical than you think. are the valve cover bolts perimeter bolts or center bolts? post the block casting number and we can narrow you down to see if the motor is at least only 40 years old

    How many gallons of resin?

the last thing to rot in a boat is the floor, the first thing is the transom and stringers. from the looks of the pic, you are not done with demolition. for a 19' boat, minimum amount of resin for transom stringers and floor would be in the 15-20 gallon range.

2001 mercruiser 305 alpha drive to couple year older 350 engine

look at the block casting number. not the serial number. no, it can not be a one-piece RMS motor with a larger bolt pattern. there are two crank patterns for an SBC. the 2-piece RMS and the smaller 1-piece RMS

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

there is no power benefit from EFI, there is no fuel economy benefit from EFI. the benefit comes from its ability to adjust for differing atmospheric conditions and to constantly monitor combustion events to pull back timing and fueling to prevent detonation as @Scott06 and I stated...

    1980 Dyna Trak 176 drain bait/livewell???

Owners manuals for boats at best are a 4 page safety brochure indicating the round thing you hold is the steering wheel, the pointy end is the bow, and the end with the prop is the stern. There is also a list of servicing dealers. Only 5 out of hundreds of thousands of boat manufacturers ever...
