Thanks Force Power, I have 2 books the Seloc and the Service manual. Seloc says both TOP and LWR Ring End GAP is 0.006-0.016. Service manual shows, TOP Ring 0.010"/0.020", LWR 0.006-0.016". I think my rings are to big to filed down to that GAP, do you think they were mislabeled, both? I'm...

There's in ebay 3 used pistons... one bad (see link below), according to the listing they are 83.85 mm, my bores are 84.201 mm, would they work assuming the pistons are in good condition? What is the gap between bores and cylinders recommended? This pistons are P/N F372015-3, and what marine...

Thank you for the chart, it seems the part number of the rings I have are the right ones, but they don't fit, the ends overlap completely by a some milimeters I don't think filing them will help, it is a lot of overlap. Maybe they were mislabeled? although as you see in the pictures I have 2...

I read also about that method of disassembling through the intake manifold, but I decided to go the full way and now the motor is completely open. Found out all three pistons are broken, with broken rings, the scoring in the cylinders don't seem to be very deep, I'm have already honed the...

    1989 85HP Fuel Pump

Thanks Jerry, I will leave it as it is just was wondering that if in any case I needed to change the complete pump, I could just buy the one with out the spring or have to buy the exact same one. By searching on ebay it seemed there were much more offers on the one without the spring...

Thanks I'll do that, I believe I read in other thread there is no Torque or torque sequence for the cylinder head bolts right? I should just try to torque it firmly in a cross pathern or something like that? Would using some liquid gasket maker be good? or could damage anything?

Hello I finally did compresion and spark test, sparks look good and strong at 3/8 gap, compression on the other hand is bad, 100, 60 and 110 from top to bottom cylinder, what should I look for now, head gasket? I dont think I'm prepared to bore cylinders change rings and all that stuff right...

    1989 85HP Fuel Pump

Hi I have a 1989 85HP outboard, I replaced the diaphragm but I noticed when buying for spares that my pump has booster spring and booster spring retainer, that matches the pump for the L-Drive version of this motor, but my motor is not L-Drive to my knowledge. My question here is what is the...

Milky fuel in carb intake force 85hp

I'll test the spark and compression test, is there any device or something that I can do to crank the motor with out having to turn the key? I usually do all this tests and repairs by my self, so it would be good, to have something to remote crank it, I used to jump a wire in the starter...

Just an update I took the boat to the lake again,,, no work was done to it from the previous take out, I just wanted to try my luck and have more detail of its behavior. Milky fuel in carb intake force 85hp

Is there any video or instructions to test the Spark Gap? I've seen a couple that are not very clear to me. To have spark I should crank the motor with the kill switch not activated with risk of starting the motor, will there be any issue if the motor starts with one plug disconected?

Milky fuel in carb intake force 85hp

Hi Jerry, I don't think it was contaminated, actually I fill up directly in the gas station and this boat is always stored in a covered shed no chance to get water. Anyways I will try your suggestion. Is it normal to have this residues in the carb intake? Regards

I just removed the water filter for this fishing trip, I purchased a new one from Sierra and noticed it was restricting the fuel flow so I decided to remove, maybe will have to put it back. The temp today was in the 70 range. Thanks I will put back and post the results.
