    Boat Ramp Etiquette

I have learned to avoid the busy times. I woulda stayed longer today, but told myself, I gotta get outta here before it gets busy (about 1030). I made a shot at the downwind side of the dock and missed (my shift action is a little iffy and I sorta voluntarily limit myself on changing gears a...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Somebody tell me why we got it. The gov't isn't in the business of cleaning out or deicing or whatever everybody's fuel systems, as far as I'm aware. If 10% is good, why isn't 15% better, hmmm? My first experience with it was when I worked for a farmer a few summers in the mid-80s, and there...

    Hard Starting after Anchoring 30min+

Kenny: Question re the wiring thing: if it was that, wouldn't that manifest immediately upon trying to restart hot? It fires right up if it doesn't sit too long, like after dunking the trailer and getting the boat at the dock for retrieval, etc. I got the issue to repeat today, but I was...

    Hard Starting after Anchoring 30min+

No, I put 100% gas in it (if the pump labels are to be believed). I thought about trying to prime it w/a little pure gas next time it doesn't fire right off under those conditions, but I'll visually check that instead, first, thanks. I ran it on the hose several times after the first run of...

Thinking about moving to Galveston, TX -

Galveston, Ooh Gal-ve-ston! I can see your sea birds flying... Etc. Had that one going through my head recent after a blue heron passed slowly over the boat at low altitude, heading in the same direction. Had me sweating a bomb attack for a sec. Do they still have the Lone Star Flight...

Try gsresources. Seems like they had a non-GS section.

    Hard Starting after Anchoring 30min+

Between 120 and 180 on the lake; settles in just a little over halfway between them. I've never had the t-stat out. There's even a few inches of gap at the rear of the engine cover due to a long padded piece not being in place (like for heat to escape). What about the ignition coil? I've got...

    1980 3.0L strange overheat issue

Ah the wonderful "What's it gonna do this time?" world of driving old boats. Sorry I can't help. Just commiserating a little.

    In dash GPS speedo?

There's no telling what they have now, but back in the day, the more angle off between you and the radar gun, the lower the reading. So the further off the side of the road the cop was if he was parked, the better that might work for you, heh. I'd imagine there's stuff now to take care of that...

    Hard Starting after Anchoring 30min+

1986/88 Cobra, 4.3L w/2bbl. Points. Boat fires right up when cold, or if it only sits for 15 or 20min at a time. Otherwise runs great too. I had this prob when I first took it out this year, and attributed it to the battery (3 or 4 years old) not being fully charged. I don't really think...

    In dash GPS speedo?

That's a most interesting point that I hadn't thought of. So that applies to WOT runs, or at a set RPM. Probably negligible where I boat, which is maybe why I haven't noticed it. I don't remember seeing more than 1mph on the GPS while drifting with the anchor up. Not that it doesn't happen...

    In dash GPS speedo?

If it's frozen at one speed, sounds like there's a clog.

Going from surge brakes to no brakes

Hopefully this isn't a hijack. I did the front brakes on my Suburban last weekend due to a pulling left issue, and then hauled the boat yesterday. It's taking them a while to break in or something. My wife didn't like them when she had it out before that, and I don't either yet, especially...

    Tie off anchor?

On a larger scale, there was a big ship of some type up in the Great Lakes area that had an anchor drop and drag, and it caught some underwater cables and caused big $$$ damage. - It can happen to anybody. NTSB reports. Too bad about the going to Rev thing. Did you just pass N accidentally?

'86 Cobra - Delay Before Impeller Sprays Out, Muffs

I pulled the impeller and it looked fine, other than just a little black debris below the cup where it rests on the housing inside. Couldn't tell if it was just a little bit of melted plastic or what. Went ahead and replaced it and saved the old one. After backflushing the hose to the t-stat...

    NO CRANK!!

Positive cable at the starter is the first place I'd look, to see if it's making good contact there.

'86 Cobra - Delay Before Impeller Sprays Out, Muffs

I thought the water pressure did that. There's a little getting out, and it's coming out the 2 holes on the RH side, but they fit pretty snug. I'm wondering what the barb on the impeller housing is intended to be hooked to now. The old housing just had a hole, the new style has a plastic barb...

'86 Cobra - Delay Before Impeller Sprays Out, Muffs

So I tried it again after not quite a half hour off, and let RPM around 1000 right away, and there was very little delay. Temp still went over 180 running it at 750rpm-ish. I pushed it up to 1000 and the temp stabilized and came down to just barely over 180. I tried 1150-1200 with no...

'86 Cobra - Delay Before Impeller Sprays Out, Muffs

How long is normal for there to be nothing before water comes out of the port in the housing, after starting on the water hose? I've got like 30sec or so. I could actually hear the impeller when I started it this evening, before it started spraying, and the housing was warm. It finally...

    OMC exhaust flapper alternative.

Put a homemade flapper on the exhaust hole that comes out the back, where the exhaust bellows would normally go. I believe I read on here that some boats have that as part of their design (Volvo Penta?). Since I couldn't just cap it off with what I used (lol), I cut it so it would come open...
