    Evinrude 35hp Big twin

Hey guys, one of my buddies has an old 35hp big twin. He told me I can have it for $50. It also has controls. Here's the catch, it does not have a carburetor. The motor looks absolutely beautiful. Never seen saltwater, and the skeg has no bumps or scratches AT ALL!! Compression was in the high...

Fish OR ski, not fish AND ski. You gotta check this out!

I have an '86 starcraft fishmaster. Didnt really have much room for more than one other person. I use the boat primarily for fishing, so I did not want to buy a Super Sport. The second console takes up too much room, and I would like a windshield, but I sometimes use this boat for bass fishing...

    Position of leaf springs?

Guys I have a new load rite trailer. I moved the axle up to distribute my tongue weight, and the leaf springs never seemed to seat as well as they did from the factory. Is this normal, and if not how do I get the bushing to set deeper into the leaf spring pocket?

Can't get tinytach to work properly.

I have the shielded version from Tinytach, and have tried routing it different ways, with no luck. It has gotten a little better, but not good enough for some test runs. I even tried putting heat shrink wrap on the wire to help insulate it more. The tach reads idle great, up until around...

    2lb. density foam or 4lb.?

I am pulling the floor up this winter and I am slowly accumulating products for the project. Marine grade ply, gluvit, rivets, amongst other things. My 16' aluminum Starcraft ('86) has been beating the heck out of me in relatively light chop. I noticed that the boat does not have foam down the...

Saw these idiots at the boat ramp today.......

So wife and I are coming in, and a storm front is rolling up. I can see a pretty large cabin cruiser on a trailer sideways, with water POURING out of where the outdrive meets the transom. They had an older F150, 2wd, that was smoking the hell out of his right rear tire. Boat was inching back...

Fishing Potomac River, north of 301 bridge.

Hey guys just had a question for any of you guys fishing the Potomac. My buddy says he has fished the Potomac about a dozen times in his bass boat. He got me all siked about fishing there. I have a 16' Starcraft Aluminum V-hull, with a relatively flat bottom. It is a little over 5' wide, nice...

RPM idling in bucket vs. body of water?

1967 Mercury 650 Doing a link and sync. Motor was running at 6-700 RPMs in neutral. Put it in gear and idle went down to 400-500 and stalled. I adjusted the spark advance, and neutral idle went up to 850-900, and in gear (in bucket) it only went up to 550-600RPMs. It ran great at idle in...

Help shedding some weight off my rig.

Okay guys as some of you know I took my rig up to the scales a few weeks ago. I am towing with a new Honda CRV. Tow cap is 1500lbs. and regardless what anyone may say, it tows this weight with ease and stops it also (although I wish Honda still offered this vehicle in a standard shift) Rig...

Long Trailer Co Single axle trailer (galvanized)

A question that has been asked many times before. The P.O. of this boat/trailer had a title, that he could not get switched over, so he put a homemade tag on the trailer. He told me that the original title said 400lb. trailer weight, 1500lb. GVWC. It is a single axle galvanized trailer from...

What guage wire for trolling motor.

Guys I know this question gets thrown around here all the time. I can figure out the voltage drop with the simple voltage drop calculator, but what percent voltage drop is acceptable in a 12V circuit? I have a 12V 45lb. thrust trolling motor on my transom, and want to run my batteries up front...

Stator; Buy new, or rewire by hand?

This is a question that I had when I first discovered this: You can see by my left hand, some of the poles were completely fried. Stator was barely charging, and new ones for this motor are NLA. If you cant find one on ebay you can send out the core and get it rewired for over $200. Crazy.

    Repair of cosmetics in aluminum?

Hey guys. P.O./s of my aluminum hull sure did drill a lot of holes and put a bunch of crap in the inside of the hull, like rod holders and all that jazz. I have this stuff called JB water weld, for aluminum. Says it is sandable. Do you guys have any idea what I could use to fill these cosmetic...

Interesting article on fuel economy and performance.

I was trudging along and ran into this. Some of you may have already read it, but it was very interesting and informative to me. http://www.popularmechanics.com/outdoors/recreation/boating/1276841

    1986 Starcraft FM 160 Restoration

Okay guys I am soon to post some pics of this process, as I have already started the teardown. My question to start is I am wondering where to put my fuel tank. Seems like in this boat they keep the tank at the stern, under a cloth. But, the P.O. has run a fuel line from a 10 gallon tank under...

    My first Hull Restoration.

Ok guys, last year I traded my nice little jon boat for a P.O.S. Don't know what possessed me to do it, but I guess I wanted a project. Dude gave me a bow, tilt and trim, fishfinder, trolling motors, all types of stuff because he wanted the boat gone. I KNEW I was going to have issues with it...

Gluten Intoloerance: Real or Marketing Scheme

Just thought Id see what the general consensus is on the matter. I am a Massage Therapist/X-ray tech/Nutritionalist and deal with gluten/wheat sensitivity personally, and professionally. Over the past few years, since the entire population is starting to realize the severity of the issue, there...

Help Identifying Merc power Tilt and Trim

Okay obviously this is a Merc PTT, and I had just realized that I had it a few minutes ago off of this POS boat that I bought. Turns out it had something worth of value on it. I have a '67 Merc 650 that I was wondering if this would work on. Also what else would I need to get this to work with...

Go up to the top of the forum and look at how many posts and threads are in each catergory, and slowly scroll down, taking particular note of Boating Safety. Bahahaha. If it's better safe than sorry, I guess we are a bunch of sorry fools!
