port side exhaust elbow over heating.

You can pull riser/elbow hose and attach garden hose to riser fitting. Turn on hose. If water sprays back in your face of blows off hose, there is a good chance riser has blockage. If salt water used boat and riser is older than 4 years, replace them all. If fresh water used and clogged, soak...

    Cracked 5.7 engine

It looks like 2 cracks. U would most likely have to pull engine to repair, so why not just replace it at that point. I have had some success at welding old Chevy v8 blocks that didn't have a pressurized cooling system, and I could access them easily in boat.

Mercruiser 5.0 Won’t Reach Operating Temp

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

If you are sure that fuel lines and tank are debris free, I suspect trash found its way into carb. This is an old mechanic's trick that some may not like, but it has worked several times for me. Start cold and disconnect throttle at carb. Remove air breather. Let motor warm up. Accelerate carb...

    Cracked Block Replacement

Unless you have fiberglass, boating and MC experience, you may be biting off more than you can chew. Most of the contributors to this forum have years of experience. Listen to them! Don't count on a marine surveyor, as I did. Inspect it yourself and look for rot. The motor is already toast. Go...

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

That's a lot of boat for a single V8, even if it was "stroked."

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

I have been building marine Chevy small blocks for decades. My only two valve issues were due to a used boat that I bought, and the former owner didn't have distributor locked down. It eventually moved and advanced timing too much and warped all of them. Shame on me for not verifying timing. The...

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

something warped valves. 500 hrs is not really a lot if properly maintained. Good luck!

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

I assume you have knock sensor, but does it work? If valves went bad due to pre-ignition, KS may be defective. Don't repeat same problem. That old of boat, I'd check for transom rot too. Trust me!

Marine Flywheel compared to an auto flywheel

unless motor is out, there is not much room to do this. May be enough room on single engine application. At least, I haven't figured out how to do it.

    Water coming into bilge

Just out of curiosity, did you replace shifter boot and clamp? This communication has been too long for my old brain to sift through. You said you replaced bellows but did that include shifter boot?
