Totally baffling !!! Impeller replaced !! And not pumping

I haven't worked on Alphas in some time, but if my old memory is correct, there is a tube (about 3/4" dia) that runs from lower unit to upper and there are o-rings or seals on it to make sure of good sealing pressure. If you dislodged tube, that may cause all of you issues.

    Stalling at headway

sounds like starving for fuel on high demand. check for blockage in fuel pick up tube and mud-dobber nest in fuel vent. Been there!

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

make sure all plugs are firing or you don't have a plug wire that has come loose. MC have some very sturdy engine mounts that can mislead boaters into thinking that all plugs are firing. Also, manually advance throttle while pointing timing light at timing tab to check if ignition is advancing.

Mercruiser Alpha One Gen I Winterization

Use a mirror to find block drains or you will have to remove manifolds/risers. I live in NW Florida where now it seldom freezes. Back in the day, when it did freeze from time to time, we wouldn't pull OD until spring in prep for the next season or bugs would have another access point. Some would...

    Carburetor Issues, Dripping Carbs...

It seems that years ago before FI, we had to adjust floats to reduce flooding. We would just bend fulcrum to achieve results. But, I haven't been into a quad-jet for some time.

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

17 year old and you got that much usage? Must be fresh water used only. 5 years is about life expectancy of saltwater risers. Next time, you may want to invest in some muriatic acid to soak risers and then neutralize acid and soak in phosphoric acid (Ospho). Then acetone test them. This process...

    Starting issue

look for cracks in main leads as well. I have experienced one red battery cable getting a nick, and saltwater corrosion ate through the copper.

    Whats wrong with my boat?

when do you put load on boat while in reverse???? It may be more serious. If you question winterization, do a compression test to achieve some peace of mind. Water inside crank case is another concern to investigate. If these are ok, then check plugs for crud and carb and fuel line for crud...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

The intake does not fit heads. It is pretty obvious, and it never did according to original post. Former owner had problems. No kidding! Take photo of heads and manifold to a speed shop.

Almost Sunk… where do I start to salvage boat

You must find LEAK asap. I fear leak is due to rot. If so, it may not be worth the effort and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Noise from engine compartment when steering left or right

Doesn't appear? Are you sure???? A hum.... Your pump is worn. Live with it. I have a 1995 Chevy truck with PS. If I turn wheel, I hear a noise too.

    Carburetor Issues, Dripping Carbs...

Rochester Quad-Jet? When they work, they work fine. I had a few over decades that leaked. One leaker was on an Olds 442 Muscle car. A couple of others were on MC. I could never completely stop one off the MC leakers from leaking. I pitched and bought a rebuilt marine carb. End of problems...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

There have been too many replies to the Op original post for my old mind to filter. However, back in the day, I had a 95 proline with twin MC 350 block motors. It was salt water cooled. It had the newer heads and block w/o a fuel pump cavity. Block was designed for Throttle-Body FI. Obviously...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

you might want to take manifold and gasket to a hot rod shop and pray some old schooler can identify what you have.

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

The heads may have been swapped out too and don't match block. Any chance you have gaskets flipped? If my old memory serves me correctly, manifold gaskets are "keyed" to only fit one way. If my memory is correct, GM changed 350 head designs around 1995. Are heads vortex, pre-1995 or 1995 and newer??
